Professor Yongcheol Kim's research lab specializes in interventional cardiology and vascular access techniques, with a strong focus on improving outcomes in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) through large-scale clinical registries such as the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry (KAMIR). The lab investigates gender differences in radial artery anatomy and access site selection, particularly evaluating the distal radial artery (DRA) approach as a safe and effective alternative for coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The lab also contributes to the understanding of hemodynamic and anatomical factors influencing procedural success, especially in women, and explores innovative vascular access strategies to enhance patient safety and procedural efficacy.

Coronary artery disease, especially acute myocardial infarction (AMI), is a leading cause of death in the Asia-Pacific region.
