Hirakawa教授の研究室は、高齢者における在宅リハビリテーションや終末期ケアの質的・実践的改善を柱としています。特に、寝たきりの高齢者に対するマッサージ療法の効果や、認知症やCOPDを有する高齢者に対する包括的で地域基盤に立脚したケアのあり方を、医療職・介護職・社会福祉士との連携のあり方を含めて探求しています。また、進んでいない進まないケアの実態を明らかにし、患者・家族の満足度や職員の仕事満足度といった人間中心の視点を重視した研究が特徴です。
