These results suggest that rabphilin-3A is a major autoantigen in LINH. Autoantibodies to rabphilin-3A may serve as a biomarker for the diagnosis of LINH and be useful for the differential diagnosis in patients with CDI.
Protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) regulates leptin signaling in hypothalamic neurons via the JAK2-STAT3 pathway. PTP1B has also been implicated in the regulation of inflammation in the periphery. However, the role of PTP1B in hypothalamic inflammation, which is induced by a high-fat diet (HFD), remains to be elucidated. Here, we showed that STAT3 phosphorylation (p-STAT3) was increased in microglia in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus of PTP1B knock-out mice (KO) on a HFD, accompanied by de
Rapid correction of chronic hyponatremia can lead to osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS), a severe demyelination disease. The microglia that accumulate in the demyelinative lesions may play a detrimental role in the pathogenesis of ODS by producing proinflammatory cytokines, suggesting that they may be a target for therapeutic intervention. Here, we investigated whether minocycline, a selective and potent inhibitor of microglial activation, could protect against ODS in rats. We induced hyponatr
Osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS) is a serious demyelinating disease in the central nervous system usually caused by rapid correction of hyponatremia. In an animal model of ODS, we previously reported microglial accumulation expressing proinflammatory cytokines. Microglia and astrocytes secreting proinflammatory cytokines and neurotrophic factors are reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of demyelinative diseases. Therefore, to clarify the role of microglial and astrocytic function in O
Tuberoinfundibular peptide of 39 residues (TIP39) is a recently discovered neuropeptide identified on the basis of its ability to activate the PTH2 receptor, and it is thought to be the brain PTH2 receptor's endogenous ligand. The PTH2 receptor is highly expressed in the hypothalamus, suggesting a role in the modulation of neuroendocrinological functions. PTHrP, which also belongs to the PTH-related peptides family, stimulates arginine vasopressin (AVP) release. In the present study, therefore,
Autoimmune hypophysitis (AH) is thought to be an autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocytic infiltration of the pituitary gland. Among AH pathologies, lymphocytic infundibulo-neurohypophysitis (LINH) involves infiltration of the neurohypophysis and/or the hypothalamic infundibulum, causing central diabetes insipidus resulting from insufficiency of arginine vasopressin secretion. The pathophysiological and pathogenetic mechanisms underlying LINH are largely unknown. Clinically, differentiati
As climate change has attracted increasing global attention, carbon neutral ports (CNPs) have been set as government policies in Japan. In this research, with the aim of providing a more reliable basis for policy making concerning ports, we proposed the carbon storage through stable containment of organic carbon present in dredged soil as a new climate change countermeasure in ports. Furthermore, it was revealed through scenario analysis that the containment effect through beneficial utilization
We conclude that LA can reduce NTDs, CVMs and skeletal malformations in the offspring of diabetic mice at term delivery.
As a result of the port reforms in Japan, the Japanese government has intensively invested in physical infrastructure to maintain the trunk routes at selected and legally repositioned first rank strategic international ports under the Strategic International Container Port Policy. However, although central international ports, which are legally ranked second, have important roles to play in trade with Asia, it is difficult to expand the functions of these ports further without the development of
