Tahara教授の研究室は、腸内微生物と宿主の間の代謝的相互作用、特に短鎖脂肪酸(SCFAs)が周辺組織の時計遺伝子に与える影響を解明しています。特に、食事由来の食物繊維やSCFAsが肝臓・腎臓・顎下腺などの周辺時計に与えるリズム調整作用に注目し、体内時計のリセット機構を解明しています。また、ストレス・運動・摂食サイクルといった環境的スチムラが中枢時計と周辺時計に与える時間的依存性の影響を、生体発光イメージングを用いて解明しています。
