Yukio Ago教授の研究室は、神経伝達物質系、特にアセチルコリン系とセロトニン系の機能が精神疾患や認知機能障害に与える影響を、行動薬理学的・神経化学的アプローチを用いて解明しています。特に、galantamineやキサンタシン系薬剤の中枢作用メカニズムや、モノアミン系神経伝達物質の調節が行動異常や感受性に与える影響を、マウスモデルを用いて詳細に解析しています。また、隔離飼育による神経行動異常と神経伝達物質系の関連性についても、薬理学的介入を組み合わせた研究を展開しています。

Several lines of evidence suggest that cholinergic deficits may contribute to the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders as well as Alzheimer's disease.
