Sakaguchi教授の研究室は、再生医療と腎疾患の分野を軸に、末梢血球や骨髄由来の間葉系stromal細胞(MSC)の特性と臨床応用可能性を解明しています。特に、関節唇由来MSCの優れた幹細胞特性や、骨髄採取以外の組織由来MSCの可能性を示しており、再生医療の新たな供給源の確立を目指しています。また、糖尿病性腎症における低マグネシウム血症の予後予測因子としての意義や、CKD患者における睡眠時低炭素血症(OSA)の有病率の高さについても、臨床的意義を明らかにしています。
