Professor Jeon-Soo Shin's research lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying the unconventional secretion and extracellular release of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), particularly HMGB1, in innate immune responses and sterile inflammation. The lab investigates post-translational modifications—such as oxidation, acetylation, and phosphorylation—of HMGB1 that regulate its translocation and secretion, as well as its role in amplifying inflammation through interactions with pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), complement system activation, and immune cell signaling.
