15The past decade has witnessed a phenomenal rise in nanotechnology research due to its broad range of applications in diverse fields including food safety, transportation, sustainable energy, environmental science, catalysis, and medicine. The distinctive properties of nanomaterials (nano-sized particles in the range of 1 to 100 nm) make them uniquely suitable for such wide range of functions. The nanoparticles when manufactured using green synthesis methods are especially desirable being devoid
Alcaligenes eutrophus NCIMB 11599 was cultivated to produce poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) (PHB) from glucose by the automatic fed-batch culture technique. The glucose concentration of the culture broth was controlled at 10 to 20 g/L by two methods: using exit gas data obtained from a mass spectrometer and using an on-line glucose analyzer. The effect of ammonium limitation on PHB synthesis at different culture phases was studied. The final cell concentration, PHB concentration, and PHB productivit
Human-Object Interaction (HOI) detection is a task of identifying "a set of interactions" in an image, which involves the i) localization of the subject (i.e., humans) and target (i.e., objects) of interaction, and ii) the classification of the interaction labels. Most existing methods have indirectly addressed this task by detecting human and object instances and individually inferring every pair of the detected instances. In this paper, we present a novel framework, referred by HOTR, which dir
Abstract Bakground Biological methods for metal nanoparticle synthesis using plant extracts have been suggested as possible ecofriendly alternatives to chemical and physical methods. In the present study, copper nanoparticles were biologically synthesized using Magnolia kobus leaf extract as reducing agent and their antibacterial activity was evaluated against Escherichia coli . Results On treatment of aqueous solution of CuSO 4 · 5H 2 O with Magnolia kobus leaf extract, stable copper nanopartic
Poor wound healing affects millions of people globally, resulting in increased mortality rates and associated expenses. The three major complications associated with wounds are: (i) the lack of an appropriate environment to enable the cell migration, proliferation, and angiogenesis; (ii) the microbial infection; (iii) unstable and protracted inflammation. Unfortunately, existing therapeutic methods have not solved these primary problems completely, and, thus, they have an inadequate medical acco
Manganese dioxide (MnO₂) nanoparticles were synthesised by the reduction of potassium permanganate (KMnO₄) using Kalopanax pictus leaf extract at room temperature. A transparent dark-brown colour appeared after the addition of K. pictus leaf extract to the solution of permanganate. The time course of the reduction of KMnO₄and synthesis of MnO₂ nanoparticles was monitored by means of UV-Vis spectra. The reduction of KMnO₄occurred after addition of plant extract with disappearance of KMnO₄specific
Nowadays, biochar is being studied to a great degree because of its potential for carbon sequestration, soil improvement, climate change mitigation, catalysis, wastewater treatment, energy storage, and waste management. The present review emphasizes on the utilization of biochar and biochar-based nanocomposites to play a key role in decontaminating dyes from wastewater. Numerous trials are underway to synthesize functionalized, surface engineered biochar-based nanocomposites that can sufficientl
This study reports a facile and ecofriendly approach for the ultrasound assisted synthesis of silver and iron oxide nanoparticles and their enhanced antibacterial and antioxidant activities. The fenugreek seed extract was used as reducing, capping, and stabilizing agent in the synthesis of nanoparticles. The transmission electron microscopy results showed that nanoparticles synthesized by ultrasonication have a smaller size (~20 nm) as compared to the nanoparticles fabricated by magnetic stirrin
