15The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the nanofiller in experimental composites on opacity (contrast ratio). Thirteen experimental composites were prepared with three different sizes of fillers: barium glass minifiller (1 microm; 69-76 wt %), silica microfiller (0.04 microm; 0-6 wt %), and silica nanofiller (7 nm; 0-7 wt %). After disk-type specimens were irradiated with a halogen light curing unit at 500 mW/cm(2) for 30 s, the specimens were aged for 6 h at room conditions and
This study proposes a new self-driven active clamp forward converter eliminating the extra drive circuit for the active clamp switch. The converter used the auxiliary winding of the power transformer to drive the active clamp switch and a simple RC circuit to get the dead time between the two switches. The operation principle was presented and experimental results were used to verify theoretical predictions. A 100-W (5 V/20 A) prototype converter that only exhibited 1.5-turn winding number in th
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of fluoride gel treatment on the bond strength between titanium alloys and composite resin, and the effect of NaF solution on the bond strength of titanium alloys. Five titanium alloys and one Co-Cr-Mo alloy were tested. Surface of the alloys were treated with three different methods; SiC polishing paper (No. 2000), sandblasting (50-microm Al2O3), and commercially available acidulated phosphate fluoride gel (F-=1.23%, pH 3.0). After treatment,
The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in viscoelastic properties of a UDMA-based dental resin as a function of time after initial light exposure. Specimens of a UDMA/TEGDMA (70:30 wt%) resin were irradiated by a visible-light-curing unit. Immediately after the irradiation, the light-cured specimen was stored in the dark for different times from 1 to 120 h at 37 degrees C, and characterized by means of DMA, DSC, and FTIR spectroscopy. The irradiated specimen exhibited a bimodal shape
This study compares the color stability of dental reinforced computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) hybrid composite blocks to that of regular blocks. One hundred fifty disc-type specimens (n = 15) were prepared from five sets of hybrid composite blocks (Cerasmart-200/Cerasmart-300, KZR-CAD HR/KZR-CAD HR3, Estelite Block/ Estelite-P Block, Avencia Block/Avencia-P Block, Mazic Duro/Duro Ace). The specimen color and translucency parameter (TP) were assessed using a spectropho
This study aimed to investigate effects of caries activity on composition of mutans streptococci in saliva-induced biofilms formed on bracket materials. Three bracket materials were used as specimens: ceramic, metal, and plastic. After saliva was collected using a spitting method from caries-active (CA, decayed, missing, filled teeth (DMFT) score ≥ 10) and caries-free (CF, DMFT score = 0) subjects, saliva was mixed with growth media in a proportion of 1:10. The saliva solution was then incubated
This study suggests that the biofilm development by S. mutans is significantly influenced by the orthodontic bonding procedure. Biofilm formation of S. mutans was inhibited on AD more than other surfaces, irrespective of the presence of saliva or a carbohydrate source.
Non-invasive objective implant stability measurements are needed to determine the appropriate timing of prosthetic fitting after implant placement. We compared the early implant stability results obtained using resonance frequency analysis (RFA) and damping capacity analysis (DCA) depending on the implant length and bone density. Total 60, 4.0 mm diameter implants of various lengths (7.3 mm, 10 mm, and 13 mm) were used. In Group I, low-density bone was described using 15 PCF (0.24 g/cm3) polyure
This study was designed to investigate the ability of orthodontic adhesives to adsorb and release chlorhexidine (CHX) after periodic treatment with 1% CHX solution. Composite and resin-modified glass-ionomer cement (RM-GIC) adhesive disks were incubated with whole saliva or distilled water for 2 h. Release of CHX was measured using high-performance liquid chromatography after 1, 2, and 5 d of incubation, 1 min after exposure to 1% CHX solution. The CHX measurements were performed in a 5-d cycle,
The purpose of this study was to observe whether the repetitive firing of dental zirconia caused changes in surface characteristics, S. mutans viability, and optical properties of zirconia. Dental zirconia blocks were sintered and randomly distributed into seven experimental groups: F0-F6. Except for F0, which only went through sintering, the additive firing was performed in order for F1-F6. Surface roughness, contact angle, S. mutans viability by fluorescence, and translucency par
