15This study was performed to investigate the fume generation rates (FGRs) and the concentrations of total chromium and hexavalent chromium when stainless steel was welded using flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) with CO2 gas. FGRs and concentrations of total chromium and hexavalent chromium were quantified using a method recommended by the American Welding Society, inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (NIOSH Method 7300) and ion chromatography (modified NIOSH Method 7604), respectiv
We examined whole blood (MnB), red blood cell (MnRBC), plasma (MnP) and urinary Mn (MnU) concentrations in 22 liver cirrhotics and 10 healthy controls to evaluate Mn concentration in which a fraction of biological samples best reflects pallidal signal intensities (pallidal index; PI) on T1-weighted magnetic resonance images (MRI) in liver cirrhotics. Increased signal intensity in the globus pallidus was observed in 18 (81.8%) of the 22 patients with liver cirrhosis. In a transplanted patient, in
It is recommended that special attention be given to regular control of indoor environments to improve the air quality of university and hospital laboratories.
The chemical composition and solubility of metals in welding fumes is thought to be related to the welder health but is not well characterized. We quantified and compared the total (insoluble + soluble) and soluble metal contents in fumes from flux-cored arc welding using non-stainless steel (FCAW/NSS) and stainless steel (FCAW/SS) wire. Welding was performed in an American Welding Society standard fume collection chamber. The total content of 13 analyzed metals was significantly higher in FCAW/
Objectives: The exponential growth of chemicals, an area of high concern in developed countries like the US (i.e., the Gore Initiative) and in the EU (i.e., REACH), as well as recent chemical accidents in Korea, have provoked nationwide concerns and resultant legal enforcement. This study aims to compare the laws of the Ministry of Environment (the Chemical Substances Control Act (CSCA), Act on the Registration and Evaluation, etc. of Chemical Substances(ARECS)) with those of the Ministry of the
Objectives: The aims of this study were to review the standards and key components of the standards for disposable masks in Korea, the US, EU, Japan, and China and to evaluate the appropriateness of disposable masks during a virus pandemic. Methods: We reviewed the standards in the above countries and compared their key elements for each standard. For the second purpose, systemic paper gathering using key words like ‘mask’, ‘respirator’ ‘virus’, and ‘coronavirus’ in the Pubmed search engine was
Asbestos is a commercial term of natural occurring silicated minerals and forms long, thin fibers. Chrysotile, the serpentine asbestos, accounts for most use in commercial use. Asbestos is well known health hazard material and it is proved that inhalation of asbestos fibers leads to increased risk of developing several diseases such as lung cancer, mesothelioma, asbestosis. In these days, people most at risk for exposure are maintenance and construction workers and general citizens who are worki
