정충원 교수의 연구실은 고고유전체학을 기반으로 한 인류의 이주와 문화적 교류를 밝혀내는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 주로 동아시아, 중앙아시아, 북아프리카 등 다양한 지역의 고대 유적지에서 유전자 데이터를 분석하여, 농경화, 목축민의 이동, 인구 구조의 변화 등을 밝혀내고 있습니다. 특히 동아시아 내에서의 유전적 다양성과 문화적 전환의 유전적 기반을 규명하는 데 기여하고 있습니다.
