15Our data suggest a role for IL-33 in the pathogenesis of CRSwNP via neutrophil recruitment. Therefore, anti-IL-33 may provide a new treatment strategy to target infiltrating neutrophils in CRSwNP.
Low-dose SEB induced nasal polypoid lesions with an increased eosinophilic infiltration in an allergic rhinosinusitis murine model.
Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a heterogeneous inflammatory disease with various underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms which translate to endotypes, in contrast to clinical phenotypes or histological subtypes. Defining endotypes can help clinicians predict disease prognosis, select subjects suitable for a specific therapy, and assess risks for comorbid conditions, including asthma. Therefore, with recent advancement of biologicals in CRS clinical trials, endotyping can be a breakthrough in tre
There is growing evidence of the role of S. aureus in innate and adaptive immunity, which contribute to Th2 inflammation in CRSwNP. Innate immunity, including epithelial-derived cytokines, plays a crucial role in the development of CRSwNP by inducing various pathways and need to be investigated more as Th2-targeted biomarkers. Recently, the role of neutrophilic inflammation in Th2 inflammation has started to be studied but still remains unclear.
Preoperative CT findings, especially the anterior portion of the olfactory cleft, had a statistically significant association with the postoperative olfactory results in patients with CRS with nasal polyps.
Neutrophils are important effector cells of the innate immune response that fight pathogens by phagocytosis and degranulation. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are released into the extracellular space to defend against invading pathogens. Although NETs play a defensive role against pathogens, excessive NETs can contribute to the pathogenesis of airway diseases. NETs are known to be directly cytotoxic to the lung epithelium and endothelium, highly involved in acute lung injury, and implicat
Olfactory impairment is not common after use of the NSF. Use of the cold knife in making superior incision may reduce tissue damage with better olfactory outcomes.
Histologic, immunologic and clinical data suggest that non-eosinophilic NPs showed enhanced epithelial alteration and more localized maxillary involvement. Combination of cutoff value on IL-5, periostin, IFN-γ, and E/M scores may be one of surrogate markers for non-eosinophil NP subtype.
Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) shows heterogeneous immunologic features. Western studies revealed that CRS without nasal polyps (CRSsNP) showed a predominantly type 1 immune response and CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) was characterized by type 2 immune response; however, the detailed immunologic profile of CRSsNP in Asian patients has not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, we investigated the inflammatory endotypes of CRSsNP in Asian patients. Patients with CRSsNP (<i>N</i> = 57), patients w
These findings suggested that IL-13- or IL-17A-induced RUNX2 contributed to new bone formation in CRS patients through its effect on the activity of osteoblasts. RUNX2 may be a novel target for preventing neoosteogenesis in CRS patients.
The loss of periostin appears to enhance polyplike lesion formation and mast cell infiltration in a mouse model of eosinophilic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.
