15This study investigated the prognostic factors of Castleman disease (CD) and focused specifically on multicentric CD (MCD). Seventy patients with CD were studied. Forty-three patients (61.5%) had unicentric CD (UCD) and 27 patients (38.5%) had MCD. Thirty-six patients with UCD (83.7%) underwent surgical excision, and 25 patients with MCD (92.6%) received systemic treatment, including corticosteroids and combination chemotherapy. In the patients with MCD, age >60 years and the presence of splenom
Developing an effective treatment strategy for <i>TP53</i>-mutated AML through innovative and multidisciplinary research is an urgent task. Directly targeting mutated <i>TP53</i> holds promise as an approach to combating <i>TP53</i>-mutated AML, and recent developments in immunologic agents for AML offer hope in this field.
Understanding physiologic T-cell development from hematopoietic stem (HSCs) and progenitor cells (HPCs) is essential for development of improved hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and emerging T-cell therapies. Factors in the thymic niche, including Notch 1 receptor ligand, guide HSCs and HPCs through T-cell development in vitro. We report that physiologically relevant oxygen concentration (5% O2 , physioxia), an important environmental thymic factor, promotes differentiation of
The history of human acute myeloid leukemia stem cells (AMLSCs) began in a seminal study performed by Lapidot and Dick, proving that only CD34+CD38- human primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells can repopulate in severe combined immunodeficient mice. The concept of leukemic stem cells (LSCs) has impeded a huge change in the treatment strategy against AML from killing proliferating leukemic cells to eradicating quiescent/dormant LSCs. As next-generation sequencing technologies have developed,
Primary cardiac lymphoma (PCL) is a rare disease entity with only a few reported cases in Korea. In this paper, we report a case of PCL in a 59-year-old man presenting with chest pain. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was diagnosed through a cardiac catheterization-assisted percutaneous endomyocardial biopsy, and there was no evidence of extracardiac involvement of the lymphoma. The patient had a complete clinical response after systemic chemotherapy with a rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin,
There have been several epidemiological studies of the association between 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) level and lung cancer risk. We explored the potential association between serum 25(OH)D levels and mutations in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in patients with pulmonary adenocarcinoma. We analyzed clinical data from 135 patients whose serum 25(OH)D levels were measured and EGFR mutational status was tested at the time of diagnosis. The relationship between 25(OH)D and clinical facto
The outcomes of Korean elderly patients with ALL were poor, and the shorter OS was mainly due to the low CR rate. T-cell lineage and the presence of lymphadenopathy were significant prognostic factors in Korean elderly patients with ALL.
A few critically short telomeres trigger genomic instability regardless of average telomere length (TL). Recently, the telomere shortest length assay (TeSLA) was developed to detect critically short telomeres and measure absolute telomeres. Using TeSLA with the internally labeled biotin probe, we measured the TL of bone marrow (BM) aspirates from 52 patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). A percentage of shortest telomeres (< 1.0 kb (ShTL1.0)) were calculated. ShTL1.0 was correlated to IPS
Cellular metabolic changes reflect the characteristics of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) caused by genetic variations, which are important in establishing AML treatment. However, little is known about the metabolic profile of patients with genetic variation-induced AML. Furthermore, the metabolites differ with disease progression. Here, metabolites in the bone marrow serum of ten patients with AML and healthy individuals were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Compa
