Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are promising therapeutic agents for treating antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. Previous studies showed that magainin 2 (isolated from African clawed fogs <i>Xenopus laevis</i>) has antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The present study was conducted to investigate the antibacterial activity of magainin 2 against <i>Acinetobacter baumannii</i>. Magainin 2 showed excellent antibacterial activity against <i>A. baumannii</i>

We revised and expanded the "2010 Guideline for the Use of Sedatives and Analgesics in the Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU)." We revised the 2010 Guideline based mainly on the 2018 "Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Pain, Agitation/Sedation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption (PADIS) in Adult Patients in the ICU," which was an updated 2013 pain, agitation, and delirium guideline with the inclusion of two additional topics (rehabilitation/mobility and sleep)

Background and Purpose- In pediatric moyamoya disease, there are few reports on the efficacy of surgical intervention for stroke prevention. We evaluated the long-term outcomes of indirect bypass surgery on a relatively large number of children with moyamoya disease in a single center. Methods- From August 1988 to December 2012, 772 children underwent indirect bypass surgery. This study included 629 patients who were followed up for >5 years, excluding patients with moyamoya syndrome. The mean c

The prasugrel group showed more effective and consistent platelet inhibition. We may omit the antiplatelet response assay with the low-dose prasugrel premedication before the endovascular treatment of patients with unruptured aneurysms. Further study is required to determine whether there is benefit of this strategy regarding clinical outcome.

Abstract BACKGROUND Antiplatelet premedication is widely accepted for interventional treatment of cerebral aneurysms to prevent thromboembolism. However, antiplatelet resistance sometimes limits the effectiveness of premedication. OBJECTIVE To compare 2 groups administered low-dose prasugrel (PSG group) or clopidogrel-based tailored antiplatelet (CPG group) in terms of platelet function and procedure-related complications. METHODS A total of 411 patients with 505 unruptured aneurysms who underwe

The 2020 Korean Post-cardiac Arrest Care Guidelines are medical recommendations derived based on scientific evidence for post-cardiac arrest care. These guidelines are based on the 2020 scientific consensus and treatment recommendations of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation and we additionally considered the research papers in the post-cardiac arrest care field which were published after the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation review. n these guidelines, topics whi

Intracranial Pressure Monitoring for Acute Brain Injured Patients: When, How, What Should We Monitor
Youngbo Shim, Jung Ook Kim, Hye Seon Kim, Jiwoong Oh, Seungjoo Lee, Eun Jin Ha
SJR Q3FWCI 4.5Korean Journal of NeurotraumaOA

While there is no level I recommendation for intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, it is typically indicated for patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 3-8 (class II). Even for moderate TBI patients with GCS 9-12, ICP monitoring should be considered for risk of increased ICP. The impact of ICP monitoring on patient outcomes is still not well-established, but recent studies reported a reduction of early mortality (class III) in TBI patients. T

SJR Q1FWCI 1.3NutrientsOA

Marked protein catabolism is common in critically ill patients. We hypothesized that optimal protein supplementation using nitrogen balance might be associated with better outcomes in the neurointensive care unit (NICU) patients. A total of 175 patients admitted to the NICU between July 2017 and December 2018 were included. Nitrogen balance was measured after NICU admission and measurements were repeated in 77 patients. The outcomes were compared according to initial nitrogen balance results and

Optimizing Mannitol Use in Managing Increased Intracranial Pressure: A Comprehensive Review of Recent Research and Clinical Experiences

Mannitol, derived from mannose sugar, is crucial in treating patients with elevated intracranial pressure (ICP). Its dehydrating properties at the cellular and tissue levels increase plasma osmotic pressure, which is studied for its potential to reduce ICP through osmotic diuresis. While clinical guidelines support mannitol use in these cases, the best approach for its application continues to be debated. Important aspects needing further investigation include: 1) bolus administration versus con

SJR Q2FWCI 6.3Journal of Korean Neurosurgical SocietyOA

In neurointensive care units (NICUs), particularly in cases involving traumatic brain injury (TBI), swift and accurate decision-making is critical because of rapidly changing patient conditions and the risk of secondary brain injury. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in NICU can enhance clinical decision support and provide valuable assistance in these complex scenarios. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of the current status and future prospects of AI utilization in the

The aim of this study was to investigate the specific thyroid condition and thyroid autoantibodies in adult moyamoya disease (MMD) according to clinical presentation (ischemia vs. hemorrhage stroke). In addition, a meta-analysis was performed to reveal the association between adult MMD and elevated thyroid function, or autoantibodies. Prospectively collected data on 169 consecutive patients with MMD at a single institution were analyzed. Community-based controls matched for age and sex were sele
