SJR Q1FWCI 12.0International Journal of Molecular SciencesOA

Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration can cause chronic lower back pain (LBP), leading to disability. Despite significant advances in the treatment of discogenic LBP, the limitations of current treatments have sparked interest in biological approaches, including growth factor and stem cell injection, as new treatment options for patients with chronic LBP due to IVD degeneration (IVDD). Gene therapy represents exciting new possibilities for IVDD treatment, but treatment is still in its infancy.

FWCI 2.1Tissue Antigens

Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) distribution in 7096 Korean cord blood (CB) units preserved at the public CB bank was analyzed by using the polymerase chain reaction with sequence-specific oligonucleotide probe (PCR-SSOP) method. A total of 14 HLA-A, 33 HLA-B, 13 HLA-DRB1 alleles and 2470 three-locus haplotypes were identified. The results are generally similar to those from the previous Korean studies, but the frequencies of less frequent haplotypes < 0.1% are more relevant and infrequent haploty

A case of mediastinal ectopic thyroid presenting with a paratracheal mass

SJR Q2FWCI 0.9The Korean Journal of Internal MedicineOA

Mediastinal ectopic thyroid is a very rare condition, with few reported cases in the literature and no reported cases in Korea. This report describes an asymptomatic 65-year-old man with a right paratracheal mass compressing the superior vena. Additionally, the epidemiology, clinical manifestation, diagnosis, and management of mediastinal ectopic thyroids are discussed. A mediastinal ectopic thyroid should be considered in the differential diagnosis of all mediastinal masses. Surgical excision i

In diabetes, the CEA level was independently and positively correlated with glycemic control status. Additionally, the change in CEA level (delta CEA) showed a positive correlation with the change in HbA1c level (delta HbA1c) in the follow-up data analysis.

Background: Dyslipidemia is a major risk factor of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the changing trends in the prevalence and management status of dyslipidemia among Korean adults. Methods: The prevalence of dyslipidemia and the rates of awareness, treatment, and control of dyslipidemia were investigated in adults aged ≥20 years from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Surveys (KNHANES) 1998 to 2010. The updated National Cholesterol Education Program criteria

SJR Q1FWCI 1.0Annals of HepatologyOA

Approximately 10% of individuals do not respond to hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccination, i.e. non-responders (NRs). We aimed to investigate the association of interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-12B gene polymorphisms with responsiveness to the HBV vaccine in Korean infants. Among 300 healthy infants (9-12 month), SNPs for the IL-4 gene (rs2243250, rs2070874, and rs2227284) and for the IL-12B gene (rs3213094 and rs17860508) were compared between subgroups in terms of the response to HBV vaccination. We hypothesize that the different microchimerism frequencies among population and methods are due to differences in detection specificities and subject characteristics. This study provides basic data on fetal-maternal microchimerism that may be useful for future studies on autoimmune disorder and virtual phenotyping in transplantation.

SJR Q1FWCI 1.6ApmisOA

Tuberculosis remains an important public health problem in Koreans. However, very few studies have reported on the genetic factors associated with TB susceptibility in Koreans. The aim of this study was to elucidate the genetic factors associated with susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). We investigated the transporter associated with antigen processing -1 (TAP1) and TAP2 gene polymorphisms in 160 Korean PTB patients (categorized according to extent of lesion and TB medication history

Umbilical Cord Blood Units Cryopreserved in the Public Cord Blood Bank: A Breakthrough in iPSC Haplobanking?
Eun Youn Roh, Sohee Oh, Jong Hyun Yoon, Byoung Jae Kim, Eun Young Song, Sue Shin
SJR Q1FWCI 0.3Cell TransplantationOA

The use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) is an emerging therapeutic option for precision medicine. Cord blood (CB) cells with lower immunogenicity, fewer genomic changes, and persistent epigenetic memory might be ideal candidates for iPSC production. Based on the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) distribution of cord blood units (CBUs) in the public CB bank, we estimated the coverage of the Korean population with HLA-homozygous iPSCs to repurpose cryopreserved CBUs. We analyzed a total of 2
