김국형 교수의 연구실은 주로 균류를 대상으로 하는 바이러스, 특히 균열성 바이러스(mycoviruses)의 생물학적 특성과 그 응용에 중점을 두고 있습니다. 특히, 병원성 감소(하이포바이런스)를 유도하는 이중연쇄RNA(DS-RNA) 바이러스가 병원균의 생장과 독소 생성에 미치는 영향을 분석하며, 농업적 생물 방제제로의 가능성을 탐색하고 있습니다. 또한, 균사 융합과 프로토플라스트 융합을 통한 바이러스의 수평 전파 메커니즘을 규명하여, 다양한 병원성 곰팡이에 대한 바이러스 전파의 가능성을 연구하고 있습니다.
