15Extrahepatic collateral arteries commonly supply hepatocellular carcinomas if the tumors are large or peripherally located. Because development of these vessels interferes with effective control of the tumor with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE), radiologists should become familiar with the imaging findings of extrahepatic collateral vessels to detect them at an early stage. The authors observed 2104 such vessels in 860 patients over 5.5 years. The extrahepatic collateral vessels
Although presence of an ulcer, mesenteric fat infiltration, direct organ invasion, and metastasis were more frequently observed in tumors with a high mitotic rate, no CT feature, other than size, was found to have predictive value with respect to malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumors of the stomach.
In many studies for chemoembolization of hepatocellular carcinoma, the Lipiodol emulsion preparation protocols, especially the mixing steps, were unclear or even unrevealed at all. However, doxorubicin (DOX) release may depend on the composition and volume ratio (Lipiodol to DOX solution) of a Lipiodol emulsion. Therefore, we conducted a preclinical study to compare in-vitro drug release and in-vivo pharmacokinetics of DOX from diverse Lipiodol emulsions and drug-eluting beads (DEBs) and to comp
The findings of CT venography correlated closely with those of digital subtraction venography, and the former accurately depicted the degree and extent of benign venous obstruction.
Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) with yttrium 90 (90Y), an intra-arterial procedure performed by interventional radiologists, has begun being utilized in managing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in Korea. There are two available TARE products: glass and resin microspheres with different physical characteristics. All patients undergoing TARE must be assessed with clinical examination and laboratory tests as well as a thorough angiographic evaluation. TARE is safe and effective in
We demonstrate strong coupling between two indium arsenide (InAs) quantum dots (QDs) and a photonic crystal cavity by using a magnetic field as a frequency tuning method. The magnetic field causes a red shift of an exciton spin state in one QD and a blue shift in the opposite exciton spin state of the second QD, enabling them to be simultaneously tuned to the same cavity resonance. This method can match the emission frequency of two QDs separated by detunings as large as 1.35 meV using a magneti
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract and are defined by their expression of KIT (CD117). This article includes 109 pathologically proven GISTs, with emphasis on their various computed tomography (CT) features. Although the images of GISTs on the CT scan are often distinct from those of epithelial tumors, radiologists should be familiar with these features for the accurate diagnosis of GISTs.
With the advent of C-arm cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), minimally-invasive procedures in the angiography suite made a new leap beyond the limitations of 2-dimensional (D) angiography alone. C-arm CBCT can help interventional radiologists in several ways with the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); visualization of small tumors and tumor-feeding arteries, identification of occult lesion and 3D configuration of tortuous hepatic arteries, assurance of completeness of chemoembolizati
On contrast-enhanced CT, primary gastrointestinal stromal tumors in the omentum and mesentery are usually well-defined, huge masses that contain large areas of low-attenuation necrosis and hemorrhage and that lack central gas.
We believe that perfusion CT is a feasible alternative modality for the successful early response assessment and early detection of a marginally recurred tumor after TACE. However, perfusion CT has limitations for the prediction of tumor recurrence after TACE.
The study data demonstrate the diagnostic value of unenhanced images interpreted in conjunction with biphasic CT images for follow-up of patients who have previously been treated with TACE for HCC.
