The periodic association of MAP2 with brain microtubules in vitro.
Hyun Kim, Lester I. Binder, Joel L. Rosenbaum
SJR Q1FWCI 21.3The Journal of Cell BiologyOA

Several high molecular weight polypeptides have been shown to quantitatively copurify with brain tubulin during cycles of in vitro assembly-disassembly. These microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs) have been shown to influence the rate and extent of microtubule assembly in vitro. We report here that a heat-stable fraction highly enriched for one of the MAPs, MAP2 (mol wt approximately 300,000 daltons), devoid of MAP1 (mol wt approximately 350,000 daltons), has been purified from calf neurotubule

Paracrine and Autocrine Functions of Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) in Brain-derived Endothelial Cells
Hyun Kim, Qi Li, Barbara L. Hempstead, Joseph A. Madri
SJR Q1FWCI 3.3Journal of Biological ChemistryOA

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is expressed by endothelial cells. We investigated the characteristics of BDNF expression by brain-derived endothelial cells and tested the hypothesis that BDNF serves paracrine and autocrine functions affecting the vasculature of the central nervous system. In addition to expressing TrkB and p75NTR and BDNF under normoxic conditions, these cells increased their expression of BDNF under hypoxia. While the expression of TrkB is unaffected by hypoxia, TrkB

Moderate to severe OSA is an independent risk factor for WMC in middle-aged and older individuals. Thus, early recognition and treatment of OSA could reduce the risk of stroke and vascular dementia.

A global topology map of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae membrane proteome
Hyun Kim, Karin Melén, Marie Österberg, Gunnar von Heijne
SJR Q1FWCI 6.0Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences

The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is, arguably, the best understood eukaryotic model organism, yet comparatively little is known about its membrane proteome. Here, we report the cloning and expression of 617 S. cerevisiae membrane proteins as fusions to a C-terminal topology reporter and present experimentally constrained topology models for 546 proteins. By homology, the experimental topology information can be extended to approximately 15,000 membrane proteins from 38 fully sequenced eukaryot

Serum tumour necrosis factor‐α and interleukin‐6 levels in Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment

SJR Q2FWCI 4.8Psychogeriatrics

The present study suggests that serum IL-6 levels of patients with AD might be higher than those of subjects with MCI and healthy controls. Serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels might be negatively correlated with cognitive function, and we suspect that serum IL-6 levels could be biomarkers for AD.

Recent studies have reported that methylation of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) gene promoter is associated with major depressive disorder (MDD). This study aimed to investigate the association between cortical thickness and methylation of BDNF promoters as well as serum BDNF levels in MDD. The participants consisted of 65 patients with recurrent MDD and 65 age- and gender-matched healthy controls. Methylation of BDNF promoters and cortical thickness were compared between the group

Patient handling and musculoskeletal disorders among hospital workers: Analysis of 7 years of institutional workers' compensation claims data
Hyun Kim, Jonathan Dropkin, Kenneth R. Spaeth, Francine Smith, Jacqueline Moline
SJR Q1FWCI 4.9American Journal of Industrial Medicine

All the observed associations of risk factors disappeared and were further away from patient handling on the causal pathway to MSDs. Patient handling involves numerous work elements and dynamic physical activities. Understanding the work elements of patient handling and conducting interventions based on specific patient handling tasks can substantially reduce MSDs among hospital workers.

Role of alkali metal promoter in enhancing lateral growth of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides
Hyun Kim, Gang Han, Seok Joon Yun, Jiong Zhao, Dong Hoon Keum, Hye Yun Jeong, Thuc Hue Ly, Youngjo Jin, Ji Hoon Park, Byoung Hee Moon, Sung Wng Kim, Young Hee Lee
SJR Q2FWCI 3.2Nanotechnology

Synthesis of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) via chemical vapor deposition relies on several factors such as precursor, promoter, substrate, and surface treatment of substrate. Among them, the use of promoter is crucial for obtaining uniform and large-area monolayer TMDs. Although promoters have been speculated to enhance adhesion of precursors to the substrate, their precise role in the growth mechanism has rarely been discussed. Here, we report the role of alkali metal promot

Cyclic AMP Controls mTOR through Regulation of the Dynamic Interaction between Rheb and Phosphodiesterase 4D
Hyun Kim, Sang Hoon Ha, Mi Nam Lee, Elaine Huston, Do‐Hyung Kim, Sung Key Jang, Pann‐Ghill Suh, Miles D. Houslay, Sung Ho Ryu
SJR Q2FWCI 1.8Molecular and Cellular BiologyOA

The mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) is a molecular hub that regulates protein synthesis in response to a number of extracellular stimuli. Cyclic AMP (cAMP) is considered to be an important second messenger that controls mTOR; however, the signaling components of this pathway have not yet been elucidated. Here, we identify cAMP phosphodiesterase 4D (PDE4D) as a binding partner of Rheb that acts as a cAMP-specific negative regulator of mTORC1. Under basal conditions, PDE4D binds R

The habenula is a complex nucleus composed of lateral and medial subnuclei, which connect between the limbic forebrain and midbrain. Over the past few years, the lateral habenula has received considerable attention because of its potential roles in cognition and in the pathogenesis of various psychiatric disorders. Unlike extensively studied lateral habenula, anatomically and histologically distinct medial habenula remains largely understudied. The medial habenula can be further subdivided into

Topology Models for 37 Saccharomyces cerevisiaeMembrane Proteins Based on C-terminal Reporter Fusions and Predictions
Hyun Kim, Karin Melén, Gunnar von Heijne
SJR Q1FWCI 3.5Journal of Biological ChemistryOA

We provide experimentally based topology models for 37 integral membrane proteins from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. A C-terminal fusion to a dual Suc2/His4C topology reporter has been used to determine the location of the C terminus of each protein relative to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, and this information is used in conjunction with theoretical topology prediction methods to arrive at a final topology model. We propose that this approach may be used to produce reliable topology models on
