15The results of this study suggest that anodal stimulation of the motor cortex using tDCS can modulate emotional and cognitive components of pain and normalize excessive attention to pain and pain-related information.
Magnetic stimulation of the QF muscle produced less pain at the same level of isometric peak torque than did transcutaneous NMES. Magnetic stimulation is a potential alternative to transcutaneous NMES, especially for persons with intact or residual sensory function.
Direct current stimulation (DCS) has been known as a noninvasive method for modulating neural activity. We estimated the effects of noninvasive cutaneous DCS applied to the cervical region on corticospinal excitability and segmental sensorimotor excitability. The motor-evoked potential amplitudes and the parameters of the Hoffmann reflex were measured before, immediately after, 1 h after, and 2 h after DCS. In this study, we found that noninvasive cervical application of DCS could increase the m
PWD experienced more barriers in accessing medical services despite needing services more frequently than did those in the GP group. Compared to barriers faced by the GP, barriers for PWD were environmental rather than personal, which indicates the need for social policies to remove or reduce barriers and improve access to care. Implications for Rehabilitation Health Care Environment People with disabilities are likely to have difficulty in accessing medical services. Barriers are associated wit
The therapeutic trial of a fluoroscopic interlaminar ESI was effective for axial LBP without significant outcome predictors.
This study aimed to investigate the reliability and validity of the Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS) for infants. Infants (age, <1 year) who underwent a videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) were included in this retrospective study. Their nutrition records at the time of the VFSS were separately evaluated by two raters using the five-point FOIS for infants. Categorical swallowing and aspiration impairment scale data were also obtained from the VFSS. The inter-rater reliability of the FOI
There is no correlation between muscle strength and gross motor function. However, this study showed that muscle strength, especially of the extensor muscle group of the hip and knee joints, might play a critical role in gait by stabilizing pelvic motion and decreasing energy consumption in a flexed knee gait.
The FOIS for children showed adequate reliability and validity and could be appropriate for documenting children's eating abilities and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions.
In transtibial amputees, significant gait abnormalities were observed during barefoot walking using the solid ankle cushion heel foot. These gait patterns improved, however, with use of a single-axis prosthetic foot, which permits a further plantar flexion after the initial contact.
This study investigated the changes in motor evoked potential (MEP) amplitude and motor behavior index when paired associative stimulation (PAS), a conjoint stimulation of a peripheral nerve and the motor cortex, was applied in a rat stroke model. The PAS was applied to 19 rats and sham stimulation was applied to 15 rats. One part of PAS consisted of peripheral electrical stimulation of the soleus muscle and the other part was transcranial magnetic stimulation of the motor cortex. The stimulatio
Several treatments have been proposed to shorten the time to the attainment of full oral feeding (FOF) for premature infants, but there are only a few evaluation methods useful in estimating predictors of this period. We investigated whether specific items within the disorganized sucking patterns described by the Neonatal Oral-Motor Assessment Scale (NOMAS) could estimate the time to FOF in preterm infants with feeding difficulty. Preterm infants diagnosed with a disorganized sucking pattern in
There is a change in the pain characteristics, including the location, aggravating/relieving factors, pain frequency, and pain interference, with the progress of the disease in patients with DMD. Thus, clinicians could more efficiently and critically assess and manage the patients' pain based on these findings.
