Oral mucositis (OM) is a common complication of chemotherapy and remains a significant unmet need. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of oral bacteriota and HSV-1 in OM. Forty-six patients admitted for autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation were longitudinally evaluated for OM, Candida, HSV-1, and leukocyte count, and buccal mucosal bacterial samples were obtained during their admission period. The bacterial communities collected at the baseline and post-chemotherapy,

Despite fair correlation with BM biopsy result, PET may not replace BM biopsy in PTCL and NKTCL. However, the BM finding on PET is an independent prognostic factor, suggesting additional biological implication of PET findings.

SJR Q2FWCI 0.5Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

The present study represents an analysis of 96 patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) treated in Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul, Korea between 1990 and 1999. Twenty-two patients were treated by allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) from HLA identical sibling donors and 74 by immunosuppressive therapy (IS) with antithymocyte globulin (ATG) or antilymphocyte globulin (ALG). There was no statistical difference between the two treatment groups in age, sex, disease duration, and

Our study shows that a high Slug and high CD133 expression status is predictive of peritoneal recurrence in high-risk resected GC patients. They are also a poor prognostic factor for peritoneal relapse-free survival and overall survival.

Although nilotinib has improved efficacy compared to imatinib, suboptimal response and intolerable adverse events (AEs) limit its effectiveness in many patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase (CML-CP). We investigated the 2-year efficacy and safety of nilotinib and their relationships with plasma nilotinib concentrations (PNCs). In this open-label, multi-institutional phase 4 study, 110 Philadelphia chromosome-positive CML-CP patients were treated with nilotinib at a starting dos

We performed a phase II trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the modified fludarabine, cytarabine, and attenuated-dose idarubicin (m-FLAI) regimen in elderly acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients. Elderly (≥60 years) AML patients who had not previously received chemotherapy were enrolled in the study. Patients received two consecutive cycles of m-FLAI chemotherapy as an induction. The m-FLAI regimen comprised fludarabine (25 mg/m(2) , days 1-4), cytarabine (1,000 mg/m(2) , days 1-4), and

The total cost of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) as well as the financial impact of HSCT on the house holds of patients have been elusive. Between 2005 and 2012, we analyzed 191 HSCT in adult patients with leukemia with reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) regimen (n = 79) and with myeloablative conditioning (MAC) regimen (n = 112). The direct medical costs were calculated from healthcare claims obtained from the Seoul National University Hospital, and the direct non-medical and

Magnetic field computations by infinite elements

SJR Q2FWCI 2.7Journal of Applied Physics

This paper describes the applications of the infinite element method to two-dimensional magnetic field problems. The system stiffness matrix is derived using the variational method, while boundary conditions at the interfaces of finite element regions and infinite element regions are dealt with using collocation method and modified variational method. The method is applied to two simple linear problems, and the results are compared with the analytic solutions. It is observed that the numerical s

In patients who received allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), we investigated the correlations between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes that regulate cyclosporine metabolism and clinical outcomes. All patients received sibling-matched HSCT. DNA samples of patients and donors were analyzed for 4 SNPs: MDR1 +1236C>T (rs1128503), +2677G>T>A (rs2032582), +3435C>T (rs1045642), and CYP3A5 +6986G>A (rs776746). Higher prognostic value of soluble fibrin complexes than D-dimer and fibrin degradation product for disseminated intravascular coagulation in patients with liver cirrhosis

SJR Q3FWCI 0.3Blood Coagulation & Fibrinolysis

Fibrin-related markers may help differentiate disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) from liver cirrhosis-associated dysfunctional coagulation. We investigated the significance of three fibrin-related markers [D-dimer, fibrin degradation product (FDP), and soluble fibrin complexes (sFC)] for the assessment of DIC status and prognosis. We classified 235 patients with suspected DIC into two groups according to their condition: the liver cirrhosis group (n = 47) and the no liver cirrhosis gro
