SJR Q1FWCI 8.9DysphagiaOA

The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of the chin-tuck maneuver on the movements of swallowing-related structures in healthy subjects and formulate standard instructions for the maneuver. A total of 40 healthy volunteers (20 men and 20 women) swallowed 10 mL of diluted barium solution in a "normal and comfortable" position (NEUT), a comfortable chin-down position (DOWN), and a strict chin-tuck position (TUCK). Resting state anatomy and kinematic changes were analyzed and comp

SJR Q1FWCI 3.3Journal of NeurotraumaOA

Although improvements in acute care for traumatic brain injury (TBI) have increased the patient survival rate, many survivors often suffer from neuropsychiatric sequelae such as depression. This study investigated the influence of TBI on the risk of depression using South Korean nationwide data. Data were extracted from the National Health Insurance Service database for patients who experienced TBI from 2010 to 2017 (<i>n</i> = 1,141,593) and for 1:1 matched controls without TBI (<i>n</i> = 1,14

Transitional and Long-Term Rehabilitation Care System After Stroke in Korea
Ja‐Ho Leigh, Won‐Seok Kim, Donggyun Sohn, Won Kee Chang, Nam‐Jong Paik
SJR Q2FWCI 2.0Frontiers in NeurologyOA

Stroke is one of the leading causes of mortality and disability in Korea. Patients who experience stroke require adequate management throughout the acute to subacute and chronic stages. Many patients with long-term functional issues require rehabilitative management even in the chronic stage. A comprehensive rehabilitation and care model for patients who experience stroke is necessary to effectively manage their needs during rehabilitation and allocate medical resources throughout the stages, th

Trends in burden of work-related upper limb amputation in South Korea, 2004–2013: a nationwide retrospective cohort study
Jun-Soo Ro, Ja‐Ho Leigh, Inpyo Jeon, Moon Suk Bang
SJR Q1FWCI 0.3BMJ OpenOA

The decrease in the burden of finger amputations may be attributable to the lower incidence as a result of policy efforts. The increase in the burden of arm amputations was particularly noticeable among the elderly population over 50 years old. This could be attributable to the high proportion of the elderly population working in the manufacturing sector and the lack of policy efforts regarding major amputations in Korea. Future regulatory efforts are needed to prevent amputations.

SJR Q1FWCI 1.1BMC Public HealthOA

The Korean RTWSE-17 scale was found to possess good psychometric properties and could address different injury types ranging from fractures to amputations involved in sub-acute and rehabilitation phases in the Korean context. This study's findings provide insights for practitioners and researchers to return to work after rehabilitation in a Korean clinical and workplace setting.

To reveal test discrepancies between early bedside swallowing screening test (BSST) and standard videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) and thereby to achieve an evaluation standard for post-stroke dysphagia which prevent aspiration pneumonia or unnecessary diet restrictions. Consecutive 252 first-ever stroke patients admitted to stroke unit of 1 tertiary university hospital from May 2009 to May 2010. BSST was performed within 3 days after onset and VFSS within 2 weeks after BSST. The finding

SJR Q1FWCI 1.5American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

An 80-yr-old woman with a history of progressive dysphagia was hospitalized for aspiration pneumonia. Her medical history included a stroke 2 yrs previously, severe osteoporosis with a T-score of −4.1 by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry, and changes in spinal alignment, that is, thoracic kyphosis and cervical hyperlordosis. The patient had maintained a puree-type diet to prevent aspiration since the stroke event. A videofluoroscopic swallowing study showed preserved movement of the larynx. Howev

SJR Q2FWCI 0.7International Journal of Environmental Research and Public HealthOA

Central-nervous-system (CNS) injuries constitute a significant cause of morbidity (often resulting in long-term disability) and mortality. This cross-sectional study compared the activity and participation of community-dwelling people with severe disability from acquired brain injuries (ABI) (<i>n</i> = 322) and spinal-cord injuries (SCI) (<i>n</i> = 183) to identify risk factors related to disability. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey of community-dwelling people with severe di

SJR Q3FWCI 0.3Journal of Spinal Cord MedicineOA

<b>Context:</b> There are few treatment options for managing autonomic dysreflexia in patients with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI). According to some studies, intravesical botulinum toxin for SCI patients with autonomic dysreflexia has a preventive effect on symptoms of autonomic dysreflexia. However, the usefulness of an intravesical botulinum toxin injection has never been reported for autonomic dysreflexia in an adult patient with chronic cervical SCI, although there has been for one pediat

Brain-machine Interface (BMI) is a system that translates neuronal data into an output variable to control external devices such as a robotic arm. A robotic arm can be used as an assistive living device for individuals with tetraplegia. To reflect users' needs in the development process of the BMI robotic arm, our team followed an interactive approach to system development, human-centered design, and Human Activity Assistive Technology model. This study aims to explore the perspectives of people
