15Individual differences in drug response can be caused by genetic and epigenetic variability and disease determinants. Pharmacoepigenetics is a new field that studies the expression changes in pharmacogenes without changes in DNA sequences. Epigenetic control mechanisms are associated with DNA methylation, histone modification, small noncoding RNAs, and nucleosome remodeling. Researchers are actively attempting to identify epigenetic mechanisms for controlling the expression of enzymes and transp
A low dose of botulinum toxin type A relieved pain and improved quality of life in patients with refractory piriformis syndrome.
CYP3A5 genotypes of both recipient and donor were important factors influencing pharmacokinetic variability of tacrolimus. The recipient-donor combinational genetic effect on C/D ratio changed over time after transplantation.
The purpose of this study was to characterize the pharmacokinetic parameters of mycophenolic acid (MPA) in Korean kidney transplant recipients. Plasma MPA concentrations of 10 Korean kidney transplant recipients administered a lower dose of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF; 750 mg twice a day) were measured at 2 weeks of MMF therapy by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The plasma MPA concentration-time curve pattern of patients taking lower doses of MPA was consistent with previously repo
Atopic disease is associated with chronic inflammation, and anemia has been reported in patients with inflammatory disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and irritable bowel disease. The objective of this study was to determine whether atopic disease is associated with an increased risk of anemia. A cross-sectional study with propensity score weighting was conducted using a health insurance review agency claims dataset comprised of randomized patients who
(1) Background: The study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of clinical pharmacist services on drug-related problems (DRPs) and patient outcomes in inpatients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). (2) Methods: In a randomized controlled trial, the participants in the intervention group received pharmacist services, including medication reconciliation, medication evaluation and management, and discharge pharmaceutical care transition services. Participants in the control group received usual care.
Our goal was to help prevent drug-related morbidity and mortality by developing a collaborative multidisciplinary team care (MTC) service model using a service design framework that addressed the unmet needs and perspectives of diverse stakeholders. Our service model was based on a "4D" framework that included Discover, Define, Design, and Develop phases. In the "discover" phase, we conducted desk research and field research of stakeholders to identify the unmet needs in existing patient care se
The purpose of this study was to identify and characterize the association of various clinical variables and CYP3A5 genotypes with the pharmacokinetics of tacrolimus and outcome over 1-5 years in kidney transplantation patients in Korea. A total of 129 recipients (aged 18-65 years) administered tacrolimus were genotyped for CYP3A5 (6986A>G in intron 3; rs776746). Clinical covariates and trough levels, doses and dose-adjusted trough levels of tacrolimus, as well as complications during the 1-5 ye
Aims: Conflicting data exist on whether an association exists between antidepressants and the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with depression. This may be due to the use of various study designs and residual or unmeasured confounding. We aimed to assess the association between antidepressant use and the risk of MACEs while considering various covariates, including severity of depression and the cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk score. Methods: Patien
Oral mucositis (OM) is one of the most common and debilitating complications in patients undergoing intensive chemotherapy followed by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) oral spray for OM induced by intensive chemotherapy followed by HSCT. Patients were randomly assigned to either the rhEGF group or placebo group. The severity of OM and self-reported quality of life (QO
SUMMARYObjective: To compare the efficacy of lenograstim and filgrastim on haematological recovery following an autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) with high-dose chemotherapy. Methods: A retrospective case-controlled study. Results: Absolute neutrophil count (ANC) recovery above 0.5 × 109 l−1 and white blood cell (WBC) recovery above 4 × 109 l−1 for 3 consecutive days was achieved earlier with filgrastim than with lenograstim ((13.2 ± 8.0 vs 19.0 ± 10.0 days, p = 0.004),
Germ line and somatic CNVs of pharmacogenes may play a role in determining individual variations in drug responses. Inclusion of CNVs in pharmacogenetic variations holds promise as biomarkers that can increase the benefits and reduce the risks of drug therapy on an individual level.
Mineral and bone disorder (MBD) is observed universally in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Detrimental MBD-related skeletal changes include increased prevalence of fracture, cardiovascular disease, and mortality. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been identified as useful biomarkers in various diseases, and the aim of this study was to identify miRNAs associated with parathyroid hormone level in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Fifty-two PD patients were enrolled and grouped by their intact
Anthracyclines play a major role in chemotherapeutic regimens for a variety of pediatric cancers, but produce undesirable dose-related cardiotoxicity. Dexrazoxane reduces early myocardial injury during anthracycline treatment, but data remain insufficient to fully understand its cardioprotective effectiveness in treating pediatric cancers and additional research is necessary to find efficient methods of dexrazoxane administration. Therefore, we retrospectively evaluated the cardioprotective effe
