국종성 교수의 연구실은 기후 예측의 정확도를 향상시키기 위해 다수의 기상 모델 예측을 통합하는 다중모델집합(MME) 기법을 개발하고 있습니다. 특히 개별 모델의 오차를 통계적으로 보정하고, 신뢰할 수 있는 예측 변수를 체계적으로 선별하는 혁신적인 방법론을 적용하여, 기존 모델의 성능이 낮은 지역에서도 예측 정확도를 크게 향상시키는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 기후 변화에 대비한 장기 예측 기술의 발전을 목표로 하며, 기후 모델의 정량적 평가와 최적화에 기여하고 있습니다.

Abstract In this study, two types of El Niño events are classified based on spatial patterns of the sea surface temperature (SST) anomaly. One is the cold tongue (CT) El Niño, which can be regarded as the conventional El Niño, and the other the warm pool (WP) El Niño. Interactive Feedback between ENSO and the Indian Ocean

Abstract A feedback process of the Indian Ocean SST on ENSO is investigated by using observed data and atmospheric GCM. It is suggested that warming in the Indian Ocean produces an easterly wind stress anomaly over Indonesia and the western edge of the Pacific during the mature phase of El Niño. In this study, scale interaction between synoptic eddies and low‐frequency flow is investigated. The synoptic eddy feedback is a key process in sustaining the low‐frequency flow. Using the coupled general circulation models (CGCMs) participating in phases 3 and 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP3 and CMIP5), simulations of the two types of El Niño event are evaluated.
