15BABA RoT yields good postoperative outcomes. With excellent cosmetic outcomes, this technique may be a suitable alternative for patients with thyroid diseases.
Bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) robotic thyroidectomy has been performed since 2008, and the indications of the BABA robotic operation has been widened to the robotic modified radical neck dissection (MRND). The indication for BABA robotic MRND is suspicious lateral neck metastasis of well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma, and the contraindication is far advanced carcinoma such as encasement of common carotid artery. Surgical procedures start from flap formation as a routine BABA robotic
Both ET and RT can be safe and effective methods to treat thyroid diseases. However, the application of robotic system may help to overcome the limitations of the instruments and surgeon's skills.
The present study demonstrated that a knowledge-based CDSS is feasible in the treatment of thyroid nodules. A high-quality knowledge-based CDSS was developed, and medical domain and computer scientists collaborated effectively in an integrated development environment. The mind map and IDT approach represents a pioneering method of integrating knowledge from CPGs.
The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between vitamin D receptor gene (<i>VDR</i>) expression and prognostic factors in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). mRNA sequencing and somatic mutation data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) were analyzed. <i>VDR</i> mRNA expression was compared to clinicopathologic variables by linear regression. Tree-based classification was applied to find cutoff and patients were split into low and high <i>VDR</i> group. Logistic regression, Kaplan-Me
Abstract Background Saving the parathyroid gland during thyroidectomy remains challenging. Subcapsular saline injection (SCASI) was developed in February 2015. Its ability to spare the parathyroid gland was assessed. Methods All consecutive patients who underwent total thyroidectomy with or without neck lymph node dissection in 2013‐2015 were included in this retrospective cohort study. Patients were divided into the SCASI and non‐SCASI groups. Serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels were measure
BABA flap-site injection with ropivacaine and epinephrine mix before incision effectively and safely reduced postoperative pain. Future studies should focus on tailoring ropivacaine and epinephrine dosage for individuals.
This study revealed a relatively low frequency of TERT promoter mutations in Korean patients with PTC. Certain clinicopathological features including old age, tall cell variant, increased mitoses, tumour necrosis and gross ETE were found to be indicative of TERT promoter mutations in PTCs, suggesting that mutational analysis in a particular group of PTCs can be effective in regions with low mutation rates.
<i>Background and Objectives</i>: Robotic thyroidectomy via the bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA), first introduced in Korea in 2008, has become a standard method of thyroid removal worldwide. The introduction of robotic surgical systems has enabled more patients to benefit from BABA robotic thyroidectomy, with good postoperative and excellent cosmetic results. To date, no studies have compared the benefits of the four currently available da Vinci robotic systems (S, Si, X, and Xi) for BAB
<i>Background and objectives</i>: Currently, few studies have been conducted on postoperative chylothorax, specifically in total thyroidectomy with modified radical neck dissection (MRND) in papillary thyroid carcinoma patients. This study provides the actual incidence, etiology, and clinical features of postoperative chylothorax and reports the clinical outcomes after treatment, which were dependent upon the severity of the complications. <i>Materials and Methods</i>: The medical charts of 111
Preoperative diagnosis of thyroid nodules reduces unnecessary surgery. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) may contain information of primary tumor(s). We asked whether the peripheral blood expression of genes specific for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) differentiates benign thyroid nodules from malignant nodules. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells from thyroid nodule patients (<i>n</i> = 20) were isolated preoperatively and the expression of seven CTC-associated genes was measured in patients with t
During thyroid surgery, some parathyroid glands fail to maintain their function, therefore, they are unavoidably detached from the patient. For the purpose of re-preservation of the function, they are minced into small segments and transplanted into the fat or muscle layer. Yet, this method of auto-grafting the parathyroid glands is frequently unsuccessful due to its poor interaction and engraftment with the native tissue, eventually leading to the dysfunction of the parathyroid hormone (PTH) se
We are presenting perspectives of how thyroid surgery has evolved from the past to the future. Technological process in thyroid surgery is the history of modern surgery and the evolution of knowledge of thyroid gland led us to the fields of organ preservation, hemostasis, cancer surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. Thyroid surgery in the present time is characterized by low mortality rate, low complication rate, and considerations about the quality of life of patients. Robotic surgery has be
