15The plastid transformation approach offers a number of unique advantages, including high-level transgene expression, multi-gene engineering, transgene containment, and a lack of gene silencing and position effects. The extension of plastid transformation technology to monocotyledonous cereal crops, including rice, bears great promise for the improvement of agronomic traits, and the efficient production of pharmaceutical or nutritional enhancement. Here, we report a promising step towards stable
The main objective of this research is to investigate the impact of manufacturing flexibility and technological dimensions of manufacturing strategy on responsiveness in the supply chain. Based on the theoretical background of dynamic capability, this study also examines the role of the business environment on the relationship between manufacturing flexibility and supply chain responsiveness. 144 structured surveys were collected and the partial least squares of structural equation modelling app
We report that daurinol, a novel arylnaphthalene lignan, is a promising potential anticancer agent with adverse effects that are less severe than those of etoposide, a clinical anticancer agent. Despite its potent antitumor activity, clinical use of etoposide is limited because of its adverse effects, including myelosuppression and the development of secondary leukemia. Here, we comprehensively compared the mechanistic differences between daurinol and etoposide because they have similar chemical
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate how business uncertainty affects the implementation of supply chain integration (SCI). More importantly, this research divides business uncertainty into four dimensions and SCI into three dimensions to examine the role of each dimension. In addition, it investigates the moderating effects of manufacturing approaches, such as push and pull, in the relationship between SCI and performance. Design/methodology/approach – Through a structured surv
The photosystem II reaction center chlorophyll protein D2, is encoded by the chloroplast gene psbD. PsbD is transcribed from at least three different promoters, one which is activated by high fluence blue light. Sequences within 130 base pairs (bp) of the psbD blue light-responsive promoter (BLRP) are highly conserved in higher plants. In this study, the structure of the psbD BLRP was analyzed in detail using deletion and site-directed mutagenesis and in vitro transcription. Deletion analysis sh
Purpose – The aim of this study is to investigate the relationships among strategic sourcing, e-procurement and firm performance, along with the moderating effects of business characteristics and environmental factors on these relationships. Design/methodology/approach – This empirical investigation relies on structured survey responses from 137 managers of US manufacturing firms. The partial least squares-based structural equation modeling approach is used for data analysis. Findings – The rese
With the emergence of environmental protection as a global issue, implementing environmental practices for sustaining green supply chain management (GSCM) has received a lot of attention. This study investigates the impact of integration with suppliers and supply disruption risk on environmental practices. It also examines the role of supplier integration and supply disruption risk on performance. Finally, it investigates the relationship between environmental practices and performance in order
Emergency management systems are a critical factor in successful mitigation of natural and man-made disasters, facilitating responder decision making in complex situations. Based on socio-technical systems, have which four components (people, technology, structure and task), this study develops a research framework of factors affecting effective emergency management. People factors include psychological factors such as responders' self-efficacy, support from family, peers and community, and trai
Tocopherols, essential components of the human diet, are synthesized exclusively by photosynthetic organisms. To increase tocopherol content by increasing total flux to the tocopherol biosynthetic pathway, genes encoding Arabidopsis homogentisate phytyltransferase (HPT/VTE2) and tocopherol cyclase (TC/VTE1) were constitutively overexpressed in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). Total tocopherol content of the transgenic plants overexpressing either of the genes was increased by more than 2fold mainly
The chloroplast gene psbD encodes D2, a chlorophyll-binding protein located in the photosystem II reaction center. Transcription of psbD in higher plants involves at least three promoters, one of which is regulated by blue light. The psbD blue-light-regulated promoter (BLRP) consists of a -10 promoter element and an activating complex, AGF, that binds immediately upstream of -35. A second sequence-specific DNA-binding complex, PGTF, binds upstream of AGF between -71 and -100 in the barley (Horde
