Processed EEG indices may exhibit unexpectedly elevated values during anesthesia maintenance in children under 2 years of age. Quantitative assessments derived from raw EEG data may improve the evaluation of anesthetic depth in this population.
Sugammadex, a selective antagonist of steroidal non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agents, has been used in children in limited circumstances. However, neither pharmacokinetics (PKs) nor recovery profile of sugammadex for intense neuromuscular blockade reversal in children have been reported. This prospective study aimed to obtain a PK model of sugammadex and evaluate its efficacy and safety for intense neuromuscular blockade reversal in children. Forty children (age, 2-17 years) who underw

In preschool children undergoing tonsillectomy, the preoperative application of a tulobuterol patch could decrease the occurrence of perioperative respiratory adverse events. Further studies are needed to elucidate the effect of the tulobuterol patch in a broad spectrum of pediatric anesthesia.
Additional monitoring of the oxygen reserve index, with a target value of greater than 0.2 during paediatric airway surgery, alongside peripheral oxygen saturation, did not reduce the incidence of SpO2 ≤ 90%.
Point-of-care ultrasound has been integrated into airway management because it allows for rapid and noninvasive assessments. We present 2 cases of unexpected subglottic stenosis in infants during induction of anesthesia. Intubation failed even with endotracheal tubes that were small for patients' age. Airway ultrasound was used to measure the subglottic airway diameters, which were 2.0 and 3.0 mm in first and second cases, respectively. The severity of subglottic stenosis in the first case was g
We suggest dilation of the pupil and decrease in NPi can indicate response to noxious stimuli in children. Regardless of sufficiency of analgesia, pupil dilation and decrease in NPi were observed after skin incision in children under general anaesthesia with 1 MAC of sevoflurane and intravenous acetaminophen.

Background: Sugammadex is known to reverse neuromuscular blockade induced by non-depolarizing agents. In children, the recommended dose for reversal of moderate neuromuscular blockade is 2 mg/kg. We investigated the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of sugammadex in Korean children. Methods: Children (2-17 years of age) undergoing brain or spine surgery were enrolled and randomly assigned to control (neostigmine) and 2, 4, or 8 mg/kg sugammadex groups. Following induction of an
The addition of dexmedetomidine and remifentanil to sevoflurane anesthesia was not associated with significant differences in neurodevelopmental outcomes at 28 to 30 months compared to sevoflurane alone.
No significant correlation between PVI and PPV was observed in children undergoing surgery in the prone position. Further studies relating PVI, PPV, and fluid responsiveness via adequate cardiac output estimation in children aged less than 2 years are required.
