SJR Q1FWCI 27.1Superconductor Science and Technology

A 26 T 35 mm winding diameter all-GdBa2Cu3O (GdBCO) magnet was designed by the MIT Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory, and constructed and tested by the SuNAM Co., Ltd. With the multi-width (MW) no-insulation (NI) high temperature superconductor (HTS) winding technique incorporated, the magnet is highly compact; its overall diameter and height are 172 and 327 mm, respectively. It consists of a stack of 26 NI double pancake coils wound with MW GdBCO tapes in five different widths ranged 4.1–8.1 mm.

Nickel–Tin Transient Liquid Phase Bonding Toward High-Temperature Operational Power Electronics in Electrified Vehicles
Sang Won Yoon, Michael D. Glover, Koji Shiozaki
SJR Q1FWCI 4.2IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics

This paper presents the concept, fabrication, and evaluation for quality and reliability of nickel-tin transient liquid phase (Ni-Sn TLP) bonding that provides high reliability for high-temperature operational power electronics in electrified vehicles. The need for automotive power electronics to operate at high-temperature presents significant challenges in terms of packaging and bonding technology used. TLP bonding is one attachment approach that addresses these challenges and facilitates high

Gyroscope-Based Continuous Human Hand Gesture Recognition for Multi-Modal Wearable Input Device for Human Machine Interaction
Hobeom Han, Sang Won Yoon
SJR Q1FWCI 4.5SensorsOA

Human hand gestures are a widely accepted form of real-time input for devices providing a human-machine interface. However, hand gestures have limitations in terms of effectively conveying the complexity and diversity of human intentions. This study attempted to address these limitations by proposing a multi-modal input device, based on the observation that each application program requires different user intentions (and demanding functions) and the machine already acknowledges the running appli

Kalman Filter Sensor Fusion for Mecanum Wheeled Automated Guided Vehicle Localization
Sang Won Yoon, Seong-Bae Park, Jong Shik Kim
SJR Q3FWCI 82.2Journal of SensorsOA

The Mecanum automated guided vehicle (AGV), which can move in any direction by using a special wheel structure with a LIM-wheel and a diagonally positioned roller, holds considerable promise for the field of industrial electronics. A conventional method for Mecanum AGV localization has certain limitations, such as slip phenomena, because there are variations in the surface of the road and ground friction. Therefore, precise localization is a very important issue for the inevitable slip phenomeno

A Mathematical Model of Hourly Solar Radiation in Varying Weather Conditions for a Dynamic Simulation of the Solar Organic Rankine Cycle
Taehong Sung, Sang Won Yoon, Kyung Chun Kim
SJR Q1FWCI 0.6EnergiesOA

A mathematical model of hourly solar radiation with weather variability is proposed based on the simple sky model. The model uses a superposition of trigonometric functions with short and long periods. We investigate the effects of the model variables on the clearness (kD) and the probability of persistence (POPD) indices and also evaluate the proposed model for all of the kD-POPD weather classes. A simple solar organic Rankine cycle (SORC) system with thermal storage is simulated using the actu

SJR Q2FWCI 1.2Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering

This paper presents the feasibility of highly reliable and repeatable copper–tin transient liquid phase (Cu–Sn TLP) bonding as applied to die attachment in high temperature operational power modules. Electrified vehicles are attracting particular interest as eco-friendly vehicles, but their power modules are challenged because of increasing power densities which lead to high temperatures. Such high temperature operation addresses the importance of advanced bonding technology that is highly relia
