세바스티안 클라렌 교수의 연구는 현대 예술의 기획자이자 큐레이터의 역할이 예술적 실천으로 확장되고 있는 현상에 주목한다. 특히 20세기 후반부터 21세기로 이르러 큐레이션 자체가 예술적 창작 행위로 기능하게 된 배경과 그 결과로 나타나는 새로운 예술 형식을 분석한다. 2016년 베를린 비엔날레와 소리스텐셀루르 켈라idos코프의 공연을 사례로, 큐레이터가 예술가로서의 기능을 수행하는 방식을 탐구한다.
