15Is East Asia heading toward war? Throughout the 1990s, conventional wisdom among U.S. scholars of international relations held that institutionalized cooperation in Europe fosters peace, while its absence from East Asia portends conflict. Developments in Europe and Asia in the 1990s contradict the conventional wisdom without discrediting it. Explanations that derive from only one paradigm or research program have shortcomings beyond their inability to recognize important empirical anomalies. Int
Abstract Organizational justice, diversity, and inclusion are central tenets of social equity in public organizations. This study explores the effects of diversity management and inclusive leadership practices on employees' perceptions of organizational justice. Drawing from FedScope and the 2019 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey, we find that an increase in the number of women and Black, Indigenous and other People of Color (BIPOC) is not sufficient to improve employees' perceptions toward orga
Innovation and internal communication are essential for any successful organization. Although communication within organizations has long been studied in the for-profit sector, we still know little about the impact of communication types on innovation in the public and nonprofit sectors. To examine this question, we leverage and construct a longitudinal dataset using 5 years of the Korean Workplace Panel Survey (KWPS) from 2005 to 2013. Employing media richness theory, this study finds that inte
Using five waves of Korean Workplace Panel Survey (KWPS) data, we examine the mediating effects of internal communication channels on the relationship between strategic human resource management and organizational performance. Comparing public, nonprofit, and for-profit organizations, we demonstrate significant sector differences in communication. Our analyses show that only for-profit firms have been able to tap into the advantages of internal communication channels in an effort to improve the
Nonprofit organizations increasingly communicate with their stakeholders using a diverse range of communication channels, some of which involve social media. Although previous studies have found benefits to using social media for nonprofits, little is known empirically about nonprofits’ entire usage of communication channels. It is particularly unclear when nonprofit organizations become capable of investing in their communication channels and what revenue sources affect organizational communica
Although recruitment and retention of qualified employees are some of the biggest challenges in the nonprofit sector, nonprofit organizations must maintain human capital inflow due to its significant impacts on organizational success. Through person‐organization value fit, this paper explores the factors that influence labor shifts from the public or for‐profit sector into the nonprofit sector in the South Korean context. Specifically, the effects on the likelihood of employees switching to the
Abstract Over the last several decades, the field of nonprofit marketing has produced a growing number of publications; however, little attention has been paid to examine what research topics have been studied by nonprofit scholars from the marketing perspectives. This knowledge production research contributes to the literature by reviewing trends in research themes and methodologies over the last 20 years among the articles for which authors use the terminology “marketing.” Employing a thematic
The peace agreement for Aceh included standard post-conflict measures, such as a human rights court and a truth and reconciliation commission (TRC). Why were they neglected? If they were going to be neglected, why did the negotiators initially agree on them instead of choosing amnesty or nothing? I argue that their nature as preemptive policies is key to understanding why they were introduced but not implemented. Preemptive transitional justice policies are adopted when reluctant policymakers at
In the nonprofit sector, effective communication with stakeholders is pivotal for promoting a good reputation, gaining financial resources and, eventually, pursuing an organization’s mission. Although nonprofits increasingly use and diversify their communication channels, such as social media platforms, existing research falls short of explaining how nonprofits institutionalize their different communication strategies. Drawing on institutional theory, this study attempts to bridge this research
The perception of organizational fairness is particularly important to women employees, who constantly confront challenges while climbing the hierarchy. This study examines the impacts of the fairness of three organizational levels – Superior, CEO, and HR practices – on women’s career prospects and job satisfaction. We constructed a panel dataset using three waves of the Korean Women Manager Panel with 1,115 women managers across the three sectors in South Korea. We find that women managers’ job
Against spatial memory violations threatening a vast amount of legacy software, various safety solutions have been suggested for decades. However, their practical uses have been impeded by diverse reasons, such as significant overheads and mandatory modifications of existing architectures. Accordingly, there has been a clear need for a practical safety solution that is fast enough and yet runs on commodity systems for its wide applicability in the field. As an effort to meet this need, a major p
As ARM is becoming more popular in today’s processor market, the OS kernel on ARM is gradually bloated to meet the market demand for more sophisticated services by absorbing diverse kernel extensions. Since this kernel bloating inevitably increases the attack surface, there has been a continuous effort to decrease the surface by dissociating or isolating untrusted extensions from the kernel. One approach in this effort is using software fault isolation (SFI) that instruments memory and control-t
BACKGROUND Accurate volumetric evaluation of donors' livers before surgery is crucial for successful living-donor liver transplantation. However, there are few studies on the volumetric evaluation in the recently popularized pure laparoscopic donor hepatectomy method, in contrast to the number of studies for conventional donor hepatectomy. We aimed to analyze the difference between estimated graft weight and actual graft weight in pure laparoscopic donor right hepatectomy (PLDRH) and conventiona
