The crossover from fluctuating atomic constituents to a collective state as one lowers temperature or energy is at the heart of the dynamical mean-field theory description of the solid state. We demonstrate that the numerical renormalization group is a viable tool to monitor this crossover in a real-materials setting. The renormalization group flow from high to arbitrarily small energy scales clearly reveals the emergence of the Fermi-liquid state of Sr_{2}RuO_{4}. We find a two-stage screening

Doublon-Holon Origin of the Subpeaks at the Hubbard Band Edges
Seung‐Sup B. Lee, Jan von Delft, Andreas Weichselbaum
SJR Q1FWCI 2.6Physical Review LettersOA

Dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) studies frequently observe a fine structure in the local spectral function of the SU(2) Fermi-Hubbard model at half filling: In the metallic phase close to the Mott transition, subpeaks emerge at the inner edges of the Hubbard bands. Here we demonstrate that these subpeaks originate from the low-energy effective interaction of doublon-holon pairs, by investigating how the correlation functions of doublon and holon operators contribute to the subpeaks. A mean-fi

Multipoint Correlation Functions: Spectral Representation and Numerical Evaluation
Fabian B. Kugler, Seung‐Sup B. Lee, Jan von Delft
SJR Q1FWCI 5.6Physical Review XOA

The many-body problem is usually approached from one of two perspectives: the first originates from an action and is based on Feynman diagrams, the second is centered around a Hamiltonian and deals with quantum states and operators. The connection between results obtained in either way is made through spectral (or Lehmann) representations, well known for two-point correlation functions. Here, we complete this picture by deriving generalized spectral representations for multipoint correlation fun

SJR Q1FWCI 1.9Physical review. B./Physical review. BOA

Orbital differentiation is a common theme in multiorbital systems, yet a complete understanding of it is still missing. Here, we consider a minimal model for orbital differentiation in Hund metals with a highly accurate method: We use the numerical renormalization group as a real-frequency impurity solver for a dynamical mean-field study of three-orbital Hubbard models, where a crystal field shifts one orbital in energy. The individual phases are characterized with dynamic correlation functions

How to Directly Measure a Kondo Cloud’s Length
Jin‐Hong Park, Seung‐Sup B. Lee, Yuval Oreg, H.-S. Sim
SJR Q1FWCI 2.2Physical Review LettersOA

We propose a method to directly measure, by electrical means, the Kondo screening cloud formed by an Anderson impurity coupled to semi-infinite quantum wires, on which an electrostatic gate voltage is applied at distance L from the impurity. We show that the Kondo cloud, and hence the Kondo temperature and the electron conductance through the impurity, are affected by the gate voltage, as L decreases below the Kondo cloud length. Based on this behavior, the cloud length can be experimentally ide

Adaptive broadening to improve spectral resolution in the numerical renormalization group
Seung‐Sup B. Lee, Andreas Weichselbaum
SJR Q1FWCI 0.8Physical review. B./Physical review. BOA

We propose an adaptive scheme of broadening the discrete spectral data from numerical renormalization group (NRG) calculations to improve the resolution of dynamical properties at finite energies. While the conventional scheme overbroadens narrow features at large frequency by broadening discrete weights with constant width in log-frequency, our scheme broadens each discrete contribution individually based on its sensitivity to a $z$-shift in the logarithmic discretization intervals. We demonstr

Macroscopic Quantum Entanglement of a Kondo Cloud at Finite Temperature
Seung‐Sup B. Lee, Jinhong Park, H.-S. Sim
SJR Q1FWCI 3.3Physical Review LettersOA

We propose a variational approach for computing the macroscopic entanglement in a many-body mixed state, based on entanglement witness operators, and compute the entanglement of formation (EoF), a mixed-state generalization of the entanglement entropy, in single- and two-channel Kondo systems at finite temperature. The thermal suppression of the EoF obeys power-law scaling at low temperature. The scaling exponent is halved from the single- to the two-channel system, which is attributed, using a

Computing local multipoint correlators using the numerical renormalization group

FWCI 3.2arXiv (Cornell University)OA

Local three- and four-point correlators yield important insight into strongly correlated systems and have many applications. However, the nonperturbative, accurate computation of multipoint correlators is challenging, particularly in the real-frequency domain for systems at low temperatures. In the accompanying paper, we introduce generalized spectral representations for multipoint correlators. Here, we develop a numerical renormalization group (NRG) approach, capable of efficiently evaluating t

Mott quantum criticality in the one-band Hubbard model: Dynamical mean-field theory, power-law spectra, and scaling

SJR Q1FWCI 1.8Physical review. B./Physical review. BOA

Recent studies of electrical transport, both theoretical and experimental, near the bandwidth-tuned Mott metal-insulator transition have uncovered apparent quantum critical scaling of the electrical resistivity at elevated temperatures, despite the fact that the actual low-temperature phase transition is of first order. This raises the question whether there is a hidden Mott quantum critical point. Here we argue that the dynamical mean-field theory of the Hubbard model admits, in the low-tempera

Construction of an Optimal Witness for Unknown Two-Qubit Entanglement

SJR Q1FWCI 2.8Physical Review LettersOA

Whether entanglement in a state can be detected, distilled, and quantified without full state reconstruction is a fundamental open problem. We demonstrate a new scheme encompassing these three tasks for arbitrary two-qubit entanglement, by constructing the optimal entanglement witness for polarization-entangled mixed-state photon pairs without full state reconstruction. With better efficiency than quantum state tomography, the entanglement is maximally distilled by newly developed tunable polari

Detecting Kondo Entanglement by Electron Conductance
Gwangsu Yoo, Seung‐Sup B. Lee, H.-S. Sim
SJR Q1FWCI 1.8Physical Review LettersOA

Quantum entanglement between an impurity spin and electrons nearby is a key property of the single-channel Kondo effects. We show that the entanglement can be detected by measuring electron conductance through a double quantum dot in an orbital Kondo regime. We derive a relation between the entanglement and the conductance, when the SU(2) spin symmetry of the regime is weakly broken. The relation reflects the universal form of many-body states near the Kondo fixed point. Using it, the spatial di

We study the filling-driven Mott transition involving the metallic and paramagnetic insulating phases in $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ Fermi-Hubbard models, using the dynamical mean-field theory and the numerical renormalization group as its impurity solver. The compressibility shows a striking temperature dependence: near the critical end-point temperature, it is strongly enhanced in the metallic phase close to the insulating phase. We demonstrate that this compressibility enhancement is associated with the

Generalized Schrieffer-Wolff transformation of multiflavor Hubbard models
Seung‐Sup B. Lee, Jan von Delft, Andreas Weichselbaum
SJR Q1FWCI 1.7Physical review. B./Physical review. BOA

We give a self-contained derivation of the low-energy effective interactions of the $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ Hubbard model, a multiflavor generalization of the one-band Hubbard model, by using a generalized Schrieffer-Wolff transformation (SWT). The effective interaction of doublons and holons, which has been largely ignored in previous SWT studies (e.g., the $t\text{\ensuremath{-}}J$ model), leads to distinct peaks in the local density of states. Quantifying mixed-state quantum entanglement by optimal entanglement witnesses
Seung‐Sup B. Lee, H.-S. Sim
SJR Q1FWCI 2.7Physical Review AOA

We develop an approach of quantifying entanglement in mixed quantum states by the optimal entanglement witness operator. We identify the convex set of mixed states for which a single witness provides the exact value of an entanglement measure and show that the convexity, properties, and symmetries of entanglement or of a target state considerably fix the form of the optimal witness. This greatly reduces the difficulty in computing and experimentally determining entanglement measures. As an examp

Interferometric distillation and determination of unknown two-qubit entanglement
Seung‐Sup B. Lee, H.-S. Sim
SJR Q1FWCI 1.8Physical Review AOA

We propose a scheme for both distilling and quantifying entanglement, applicable to individual copies of an arbitrary unknown two-qubit state. It is realized in a usual two-qubit interferometry with local filtering. Proper filtering operation for the maximal distillation of the state is achieved by erasing single-qubit interference, and then the concurrence of the state is determined directly from the visibilities of two-qubit interference. We compare the scheme with full state tomography.
