15RNA editing is the alteration of RNA sequences via insertion, deletion and conversion of nucleotides. In flowering plants, specific cytidine residues of RNA transcribed from organellar genomes are converted into uridines. Approximately 35 editing sites are present in the chloroplasts of higher plants; six pentatricopeptide repeat genes involved in RNA editing have been identified in Arabidopsis. However, although approximately 500 editing sites are found in mitochondrial RNAs of flowering plants
Robertsonian translocations (ROBs) are rearrangements of the acrocentric chromosomes 13-15 and 21-22. Cytologically, ROBs between homologous chromosomes cannot be distinguished from isochromosomes that originate through duplication of a single homologue. Both types of rearrangements can be involved in aneuploidy. A conceptus with a trisomy or a monosomy can be rescued, and in a proportion of cases, a uniparental disomy (UPD) would result. If there are regions of genome imprinting on a uniparenta
Abstract A series of three-dimensional finite element analyses was conducted to investigate the effects of the embedment depth, the non-homogeneity of clay, and combined loads on the undrained bearing capacities of bucket foundations. The undrained shear strength and Young's modulus of clay were assumed to vary linearly with depth. Meanwhile, the stress-strain response of clay was simulated using the Tresca criterion. The numerical modeling adopted in this study was verified by comparing the cal
The SNP/indel markers linked to yield related genes functioned properly in our marker-assisted breeding program with identified high yield potential lines. These markers can be utilized in local favorite rice cultivars for yield enhancement. The marker designing strategy using both next generation sequencing and Sanger sequencing methods can be used for suitable marker development of other genes associated with useful agronomic traits.
Rice yield potential has been stagnant since the Green Revolution in the late 1960s, especially in tropical rice cultivars. We evaluated the effect of two major genes that regulate grain number, Gn1a/OsCKX2 and IPA1/WFP/OsSPL14, in elite indica cultivar backgrounds. The yield-positive Gn1a-type 3 and OsSPL14WFP alleles were introgressed respectively through marker-assisted selection (MAS). The grain numbers per panicle (GNPP) were compared between the recipient allele and the donor al
Adaptation of temperate <i>japonica</i> rice varieties to tropical regions is impeded by extremely early flowering probably due to photoperiod change from long to short. However, constant breeding efforts led to development of temperate <i>japonica</i> varieties adapted to tropical/subtropical regions, but the genetic factor underlying this is still elusive. We analyzed the 45 diverse rice accessions and 12 tropical-adapted temperate <i>japonica</i> lines for the allele types of seven major flow
