15Pacing-induced cardiomyopathy patients showed a worse long-term prognosis than those without PiCM. Therefore, patients with multiple risk factors of PiCM should be monitored carefully even if their left ventricular systolic function is preserved initially. A timely upgrade to a biventricular or His-bundle pacing device needs to be considered in patients with PiCM.
Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) can be classified according to the presence of a nasal polyp (NP): CRS with NP (CRSwNP) and CRS without NP (CRSsNP). CRSwNP has characteristics with high infiltration of tissue eosinophilia with a burst of Th2 inflammatory cytokine. However recent findings in Eastern Asia countries suggest that CRSwNP can be divided according to the presence of tissue eosinophilia. Thus, CRSwNP can be classified into eosinophilic and noneosinophilic. Eosinophilic CRSwNP seems to have
VAACS patients showed worse clinical outcomes, driven mainly by recurrent MI. Therefore, intensive medical treatment might be required in VAACS patients.
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major determinant of long-term prognosis in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). We investigated the predictors of CAD in patients with lower extremity PAD.A total of 107 patients with PAD who underwent peripheral and simultaneous coronary angiography were reviewed. PAD was defined as (≥ 50%) stenosis associated with claudication or critical limb ischemia. PAD was divided into proximal and distal lesions. CAD was defined as angiographically significan
Photoaffinity labeling with [gamma-32P]8N3GTP (8-azidoguanosine triphosphate) was used to identify the guanine binding peptides of the GTT binding site within two types of glutamate dehydrogenase isoproteins (GDH I and GDH II) isolated from bovine brain. 8N3GTP, without photolysis, mimicked the inhibitory properties of GTP on GDH I and GDH II activities. Saturation of photoinsertion of GDH isoproteins revealed an apparent Kd of 8 microM (GDH I) and 24 microM (GDH II) for [gamma-32P]8N3GTP. Ion e
Cluster analysis identified 2 asthmatic clusters and 4 non-asthmatic clusters in CRSwNP. Each cluster corresponded to a different clinical outcome.
In this cross-sectional study, recorded sleep breathing sounds using a smartphone were used to create reasonably accurate OSA prediction models. Future research should focus on real-life recordings using various smartphone devices.
Primary cardiac lymphomas (PCL) are extremely rare. Clinical manifestations may be variable and are attributed to location. Here, we report on a case of PCL presenting with atrioventricular (AV) block. A 55 year-old male had experienced chest discomfort with unexplained dyspnea and night sweating. His initial electrocardiogram (ECG) revealed a first degree AV block. Along with worsening chest discomfort and dyspnea, his ECG changed to show second degree AV block (Mobitz type I). Computed tomogra
Prolonged intake of low levels of aluminum from the drinking water has been found to increase the aluminum content in rat brain homogenates and to reduce the activity of hexokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD). To determine the interaction of G6PD with aluminum in the brain, we have recently purified two isozymes of G6PD (isozymes I and II) from human and pig brain. Unlike isozyme I, isozyme II also had 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6-PGD) activity. We report here that G6PD i
When treated with protopine and alkalized extracts of the tuber of Corydalis ternata for one year, significant decrease in glutamate level and increase in glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) activity was observed in rat brains. The expression of GDH between the two groups remained unchanged as determined by Western and Northern blot analysis, suggesting a post-translational regulation of GDH activity in alkalized extracts treated rat brains. The stimulatory effects of alkalized extracts and protopine
Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is characterized according to the presence or absence of nasal polyps (NPs) and displays nasal microbiota dysbiosis. However, optimal sampling methods of the nasal microbiome in CRS have not been identified. We aimed to assess the microbial composition in patients with CRS, comparing different sampling methods (swab and tissue biopsy), tissue types (uncinate tissue and NP), and disease subtypes. Samples were obtained by swabbing the middle meatus and taking a biopsy
Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics of and treatment outcomes for orbital apex lesions according to their pathological diagnosis and identify clinical characteristics that could aid in their differential diagnosis. Design Retrospective analysis design was used for this study. Setting The study was conducted in a single tertiary institution. Participants Patients with pathologically confirmed lesions centered in the orbital apex who were admitted between
