15Abstract Permeabilities, solubilities, diffusivities, and selectivities for He/CH4 and CO2/CH4 gas pairs are reported for four aromatic polyimides having systematic variations in intersegrnental packing and intrasegmental mobility. As intersegmental packing is disrupted by bulky substituents, gas diffusivities are generally increased, but diffusivity selectivities of He/CH4 and CO2/CH4 are correspondingly decreased. Simultaneous suppression of intrasegmental mobility and intersegmental packing,
NIR imaging may provide additional node detection during laparoscopic LN dissection for gastric cancer, especially in the infra-pyloric area.
We validated the basic life support termination of resuscitation (BLS TOR) rule retrospectively using Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) data of metropolitan emergency medical service (EMS) in Korea. We also tested it by investigating the scene time interval for supplementing the BLS TOR rule. OHCA database of Seoul (January 2011 to December 2012) was used, which is composed of ambulance data and hospital medical record review. EMS-treated OHCA and 19 yr or older victims were enrolled, after
This paper describes a novel logic-based controller for the global asymptotic stabilization of an underactuated surface vessel, which has a larger degree-of-freedom than the number of control inputs. This system cannot be asymptotically stabilized using any time-invariant smooth feedback controller since the system violates the well-known Brockett's condition (1983). Thus, the proposed controller can be viewed as a time-varying controller devised to circumvent this limitation. It consists of a s

Prompt live-saving interventions, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), intravenous cannulation (IVC), and endotracheal intubation (ETI), are important for severely injured victims of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) disasters. Interventions sometime have to be performed by emergency medical service (EMS) personnel with personal protective equipment (PPE) worn in warm zones. We designed a randomized crossover simulation aimed to compare the performance of life-saving
Advanced glycation end products (AGEs), a heterogeneous mixture of compounds formed by non-enzymatic chemical reactions between sugars and the nucleophilic residues of proteins, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of a number of diseases. ALT-711 is an N-phenacyl-derived thiazolium carbene developed as a therapeutic agent for cardiovascular diseases that is proposed to function through cleaving preformed AGE-protein crosslinks. However, despite promising results in animal models and clinica
To help mitigate the effects of global warming and fossil fuel depletion caused by human use of fossil fuels, solid fuel pellets were developed from a mixture of spent coffee grounds (SCG) and pine sawdust (PS). The feasibility of SCG-PS pellets as biofuel was also verified by evaluating its fuel quality. An increase in the proportion of SCG in the pellet led to an increase in its calorific value, owing to the high C, H, and oil contents, and increases in the ash and S contents, owing to the hig
