연구실 소개

이경우 교수 연구실은 고순도 마그네슘 금속의 친환경적 제련 기술 개발을 핵심으로 하며, 마그네사이트, 석회석, 폐기물 자원 등 다양한 산화마그네슘 자원을 원료로 사용하는 전기화학적 분해 기반의 마그네슘 생산 공정을 연구하고 있습니다. 특히, 불화염류 및 산화물 전해질을 활용한 고온 전기분해 기술을 통해 높은 전류 효율과 순도를 확보하고 있으며, 철산화물의 전기분해를 통한 탄소 배출 감소 기술도 동시에 개발하고 있습니다. 이는 철강 및 첨단 소재 분야에서의 탄소중립 기술 기반 마련에 기여할 잠재력을 지닙니다.

A green and effective electrolytic process was developed to produce high-purity Mg metal using primary and secondary resources containing MgO as a feedstock. The electrolysis of various MgO resources was conducted using a Cu cathode in MgF2 – LiF – KCl molten salt at 1043 K by applying an average current of 1.44 A for 12.5 h. In this study, a novel Mg production process for producing high-purity Mg metal from dolomite was developed. When the electrolysis of calcined dolomite was conducted using Cu cathode and C anode in MgF2 – LiF molten salt at 1083–1173 K by applying an average current of 1.42–1.46 A for 9.50–21.0 h, the current efficiency of 66.4–88.6% was obtained. Molten oxide electrolysis can be used to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions from ironmaking. In this paper, we electrochemically decompose iron oxide (Fe2O3) into iron (Fe) and oxygen (O2) using boron trioxide and sodium oxide (B2O3–Na2O) as the molten oxide electrolyte at 1000°C that is less than the temperature of other molten oxide electrolysis.
