주용성 교수의 연구실은 식물의 방어 기작, 특히 기생충과 포식자 유인을 위한 화학적 신호인 휘발성 화합물의 시계적 조절과 그 생태적 영향을 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 주로 야생 흑후추( Nicotiana attenuata )를 모델 식물로 삼아, 해충 공격에 의한 식물 반응의 시간적 동역학, 특히 생체 시계와 호르몬 신호 전달 네트워크의 상호작용을 규명하고 있습니다. 특히 식물의 휘발성 방어 화합물이 포식자나 기생충을 유인하는 데 어떻게 시간에 따라 조절되는지, 그리고 이로 인해 삼중 영향망(식물-해충-포식자)이 어떻게 변화하는지를 탐구합니다.
