연구실 소개
곽철 교수 연구실은 전립선암과 신장세포암의 진행 메커니즘과 예후 요법에 중점을 두고 있으며, 특히 호르몬 저항성 전립선암의 예후 인자로 나이드 PSA 수치의 중요성을 규명해 왔습니다. 또한 혈관신생 및 p53 상태가 암 진행에 미치는 영향, 신장세포암의 만성적 재발 및 sarcomatoid 변이형의 면역요법 반응성 등 암의 생물학적 특성과 치료 반응을 해소하는 데 핵심적인 연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 수술적 치료와 생물학적 표적 치료의 융합 전략 개발을 통해 암 환자의 생존 기간 연장에 기여하고자 합니다.

15The nadir PSA level after hormone therapy may be the most accurate factor predicting the progression to hormone refractory prostate cancer and is an independent prognostic factor for survival. Furthermore, a lower limit for the nadir PSA level of 1.1 ng./ml. gives optimal sensitivity and specificity.
Angiogenic factors, including VEGF and TSP-1, might be important in the development and progression of prostate cancer. These changes seem to be influenced by p53 status. Identifying the angiogenic factors involved in prostate cancer might lead to the development of diagnostic or therapeutic strategies based on anti-angiogenesis.
• Late recurrence of RCC is not a rare event. • Patients with late recurrence had more favourable clinicopathological features and better prognosis with long cancer-specific survival after recurrence. • Age and preoperative hs-CRP levels may be independent predictive factors for late recurrence of RCC.

O. formigenes can be identified easily and efficiently using this PCR-based detection system. The colonization rate of O. formigenes in patients with urolithiasis was significantly lower than that in healthy volunteers known to be free from urolithiasis. Furthermore, as the PCR-based assay results in the frozen fecal samples were identical to those from fresh samples in each subject, immediate processing of fecal samples may not be necessary to detect O. formigenes in the clinical setting.
