Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b bioaugmentation unleashes polyhydroxybutyrate-accumulating potential in waste-activated sludge
Hyerim Eam, Dayoung Ko, Changsoo Lee, Jaewook Myung
SJR Q1FWCI 1.2Microbial Cell FactoriesOA

Bioaugmentation strategies, leveraging M. trichosporium OB3b could significantly enhance PHB production and foster the enrichment of PHB-accumulating methanotrophs in activated sludge. These findings contribute to integrating PHB production in wastewater treatment plants, providing a sustainable solution for resource recovery.

Discrepancy of Medical Terminology Regarding Colorectal Surgery Between South and North Korea
고다영, 오흥권, 조장환, 양현휘, 김민현, 김명조, 강성일, 김덕우, 강성범

Purpose: We aimed to investigate the extent of heterogeneity in medical terminology between South and North Korea by comparing medical terms related to the colorectal system. Methods: North Korean medical terms were collected from the sections on diseases of the small intestine and colon in a surgery textbook from North Korea, and those terms were compared with their corresponding terms in a South Korean medical terminology textbook. The terms were categorized as either identical, similar, showi

Single-center experience with pediatric short bowel syndrome: clinical outcomes based on etiology and anatomical type in a retrospective cohort study
Honam Hwang, Dayoung Ko, Joong Kee Youn, H. J. Yang, Hyun-Young Kim
SJR Q2Annals of Surgical Treatment and ResearchOA

The study suggests that clinical outcomes in pediatric SBS patients can vary depending on underlying etiology and anatomical type, indicating that tailored interventions might enhance patient outcomes. Further research is needed to identify independent prognostic factors for SBS and improve the quality of life of SBS children.

Transcriptional stratification of necrotizing enterocolitis identifies distinct disease subtypes
Jean Lee, SoHyun Nam, Dayoung Ko, Joong Kee Youn, Jaemoon Koh, Hee Beom Yang, Murim Choi, Hyun-Young Kim
SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a severe inflammatory disorder of the intestine that affects neonatal babies, with a mortality rate of 30-50%. Despite the severe nature of the disease, its rare incidence and early onset prevent further understanding of its etiology and the development of treatment strategies. To further understand the pathogenic mechanism of this disease, we subjected intestinal tissues from ten NEC patients and three control individuals to RNA-sequencing. Clustering of the a

Indeterminate Colitis-Related Pancolitis Leading to Perforation in a Child With KBG Syndrome: A Case Report
Jihon Yang, Dayoung Ko, Eun Na Kim, C Lee, Joong Kee Youn, H Kim
Advances in Pediatric SurgeryOA

Pediatric intestinal perforation is a surgical emergency that must be promptly addressed regardless of the specific cause. Here we report a case of colon perforation caused by indeterminate inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in an autistic 13-year-old boy.Ulcerative colitis (UC) and lymphoma were first suspected but subsequently ruled out.The patient was previously hospitalized locally for 8 days due to diarrhea. He was diagnosed with UC and colon perforation in the emergency room.He then underwent
