Professor Geum Joon Cho's research lab focuses on reproductive and metabolic health, with a strong emphasis on the long-term physiological and metabolic consequences of pregnancy and menopause. The lab investigates the interplay between hormonal changes, reproductive history, and chronic disease risk, particularly metabolic syndrome, gestational diabetes, and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Key research directions include the impact of postmenopausal status, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection during pregnancy, and oral health on maternal and fetal health. The lab employs large-scale population-based data and longitudinal studies to identify modifiable risk factors and improve preventive strategies in women's health.

Postmenopausal status is an independent risk factor for the metabolic syndrome and all of its individual components. The risk for the metabolic syndrome increased up to 14 years since menopause. In addition, postmenopausal status has effects during different periods since menopause for each of these components.
We observed a high prevalence of HR-HPV infection in pregnant women. Moreover, HR-HPV infection was associated with a risk of PROM at term. Further studies are needed to evaluate mechanisms by which HR-HPV infection induces PROM.
