15TAE with NBCA is a highly effective and safe treatment modality for nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding, especially when it is not possible to advance the microcatheter to the bleeding site and when the patient has a coagulopathy.
Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) with N-Butyl Cyanoacrylate (NBCA) for nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Materials and Methods: Between March 1999 and December 2002, TAE for nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding was performed in 93 patients. The endoscopic approach had failed or was discarded as an approach for control of bleeding in all study patients. Among the 93 patients NBCA was used as the primary embolic
We believe that perfusion CT is a feasible alternative modality for the successful early response assessment and early detection of a marginally recurred tumor after TACE. However, perfusion CT has limitations for the prediction of tumor recurrence after TACE.
After delivery through a catheter, a three-dimensional hydrogel network was formed upon the change of environmental pH, and thus block the targeted blood vessels, as presented in white color under the fluoroscopic angiogram.
Even though intraarterial delivery of 3-BrPA shows a dose-related antitumor effect, single session treatment seems to have limited efficacy when compared with the conventional method.
Luminal obliteration, decreased caliber, fibrotic bands, ipsilateral muscle enlargement, and superficial collateral vein development are common CT findings in chronic DVT of the lower extremity.
Computed tomographic angiography is a reliable preoperative imaging technique for the selection of appropriate legs as candidates for fibular free transfer.
Objective: We wanted to evaluate the mural changes by CT on the follow-up examination of patients with active Takayasu arteritis. Materials and Methods: The study included 18 patients, (4 males and 14 females), with active Takayasu arteritis. A total of 44 CT examinations were done during the follow-up period (mean: 55.6 months). At the time of the last follow-up CT, the disease, on the basis of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), was found to be inactive in five patients and the disease w
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the antitumor effect and hepatotoxicity of an intraarterial delivery of low-dose and high-dose 3-bromopyruvate (3-BrPA) and those of a conventional Lipiodol-doxorubicin emulsion in a rabbit VX2 hepatoma model. Materials and Methods: This experiment was approved by the animal care committee at our institution. VX2 carcinoma was implanted in the livers of 36 rabbits. Transcatheter intraarterial administration was performed using low dose 3- BrPA
Unusual radiological manifestations of rare complications of cardiovascular Behcet disease (BD) are the following: (a) aneurysm and (b) occlusion in the aorta and its major branches, (c) pseudoaneurysms on the aortic root and coronary artery, and recurrent valvular dehiscence in the heart, (d) venous thrombosis in the deep and superficial venous system and vena cava. The initial exact diagnosis of cardiovascular BD has been extremely difficult for these rare complicated findings, especially in t
Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a therapeutic approach to address hepatocellular carcinoma by obstructing the blood supply to the tumor using embolic agents and improving the local delivery of anticancer agents. Size-calibrated polymeric microspheres (MSs) termed drug-eluting beads (DEBs) are the most prevalent solid embolic materials; however, their limitations include insufficient X-ray visibility or biodegradability. In this study, size-controlled polymeric MSs with inherent radiopa
Endovascular embolization is a promising therapeutic approach broadening its application area due to its minimal invasiveness and short operation time, wherein lesional blood vessels are occluded with liquid embolic agents under X-ray imaging guidance. Histoacryl and its composition with Lipiodol are one of the most widely used liquid embolic agents, however, Histoacryl has critical limitations, such as lack of innate X-ray visibility and strong adhesion to microcatheter. In this study, three di
