15Although preoperative ureteral stenting did not affect operative outcomes, it increased the success rate of access sheath placement. Depending on the patient's characteristics, preoperative ureteral stenting can be considered as an adjunctive option when access sheath insertion is considered during RIRS.
In this study, CK14 expression was associated with a poor prognosis. The new classification system of bladder cancer based on molecular characteristics is expected to helpful tool for the establishment of personalized treatment strategies and associated prediction of therapeutic responses.
Urothelial carcinoma (UC) can occur in various parts of the urinary tract and occurs in different stages and grades. The disease recurs frequently and is monitored through a series of invasive tests, such as cystoscopy or ureteroscopy, over the lifetime of an individual. Although many researchers have attempted to stratify the risks of UC, with the majority being based on cancer characteristics and host factors such as performance status, a risk classification system has yet to be fully develope
The objective of this study was to investigate pretreatment systemic inflammatory response (SIR) markers in patients who underwent initial intravesical treatment for high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). A total of 385 patients who underwent initial intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin treatment after transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURB) were included. We analyzed the relationship between oncological outcomes and ratios of SIR markers, including neutrophil-to-lymphocy
Preoperative AST/ALT ratio could be an independent prognostic factor in patients with UC treated with radical cystectomy.
Radical cystectomy (RC) is the standard treatment for patients diagnosed with muscle invasive bladder cancer, but is associated with significant morbidity and long hospital stays. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is based on a variety of interventions during the peri-treatment stage. It is designed to improve morbidity, enhance recovery, and reduce hospital stays after RC. The study provides an overview of the key elements of the ERAS protocol recommended for patients undergoing RC and dir
We evaluated the contribution of tumor volume (TV) to localized prostate cancer (PCa) patients' prognosis. We retrospectively analyzed the data of 2394 patients who underwent radical prostatectomy (RP) for localized PCa. The effect of TV and tumor prostate ratio (TV/PV) on PCa patients' prognosis was analyzed through Kaplan-Meier and Cox-proportional analysis. The mean prostate volume for all patients was 36.5 ± 15.4 cc, and the mean TV was 5.9 ± 8.3 cc. A significant positive relationship was o
To determine the prognostic value of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) in patients with bladder cancer who underwent radical cystectomy. Total of 747 patients underwent radical cystectomy; of these, only 164 did not undergo lymph node dissection (LND). The patients were divided into 4 groups: N0, N1, LVI without LND, and non-LVI without LND. Patients in the N1 and LVI groups had significantly higher T stages and grades, as well 1.5- to 2-fold higher recurrence and mortality rates. Overall survival (
Voiding symptoms, PVR, and Qmax of BPH patients with preoperative AUR and CUR significantly improved after Ho-LEP, similar to those without preoperative UR.
The PLR was an independent prognostic factor for survival outcomes in patients with mRCC. However, the association was statistically significant only in patients with clear cell type mRCC.
We investigated the efficacy of and risk from holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) due to discontinuation of antithrombotics in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Patients in the prospective SNUH-BPH Database Registry who underwent HoLEP between December 2010 and December 2017 were enrolled. Preoperative evaluation included symptom score questionnaires, laboratory tests, urine tests, prostate-specific antigens, urodynamic study, and transrectal ultrasonography. Postop
Gross hematuria, grade, and tumor quantity and size were significantly associated with residual cancer on multivariate analysis. In the referred group, repeat TURBT and restaging are necessary.
We evaluated the expression of PDLIM2 in human kidney cancer cell lines from primary or metastatic origins and found that PDLIM2 expression was highly elevated in metastatic kidney cancers. We evaluated the effect of PDLIM2 inhibition by RNA interference method. PDLIM2 knockdown showed the decreased proliferation and metastatic character in human metastatic kidney cancer cells. By repeated round of orthotopic injection of RenCa mouse kidney cancer cell line, we obtained metastatic prone mouse ki
We evaluated the effect of intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) and BCG maintenance therapy on the prognosis of patients with T0 after repeat transurethral resection of bladder mass (TURBT). This retrospective analysis involved 427 patients who underwent repeat TURBT within 6 weeks after initial TURBT from 2007 to 2016. Repeat TURBT was performed in patients with high-risk criteria. Patients who achieved T0 after repeat TURBT did or did not receive intravesical BCG therapy. Patients were
