Professor Hyow-Jung Lee's research lab specializes in microbial ecology and host-microbe interactions, with a focus on understanding the roles of methanotrophs and methanogens in anaerobic environments such as rice paddies and ruminant digestive systems. The lab integrates molecular microbiology, high-throughput sequencing (e.g., 16S rRNA gene pyrosequencing), and metabolomics to explore microbial community dynamics, methane cycling, and metabolic interactions in agricultural and host-associated ecosystems. Additional research explores the metabolic links between adipocytes and insulin resistance, as well as the bioactive compounds in traditional medicinal plants and their antiangiogenic properties.

15The communities and abundances of methanotrophs and methanogens, along with the oxygen, methane, and total organic carbon (TOC) concentrations, were investigated along a depth gradient in a flooded rice paddy.
