The thoracic aorta dilated with aging and was larger in subjects with a larger body size. Sex differences in the gross aortic diameter might be related to differences in body size. The growth of the thoracic aorta was faster in younger subjects with a smaller indexed diameter.
The first aim of this study was to develop a prothrombin time international normalized ratio (PT INR) prediction model. The second aim was to develop a warfarin maintenance dose decision support system as a precise warfarin dosing platform. Data of 19,719 inpatients from three institutions was analyzed. The PT INR prediction algorithm included dense and recurrent neural networks, and was designed to predict the 5th-day PT INR from data of days 1-4. Data from patients in one hospital (n = 22,314)
Compared with TVr, TVR had acceptable early and late outcomes in patients with severe TR. TVR can be considered as a valid option with acceptable clinical outcomes in patients who are not suitable candidates for TVr.
Patients with untreated trivial or mild functional TR accompanied by mitral valve disease can develop significant TR during follow-up. TV ring annuloplasty can be performed without complications and can be beneficial for patients with trivial or mild functional TR who are undergoing MVR.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of treatment with amino compounds and solvents in vivo on calcifications of glutaraldehyde (GA)-fixed pericardium. Groups of bovine pericardium samples were fixed with 0.5% GA. We used urazole and glutamate to neutralize the free aldehyde and some solvents (ethanol with octanol or octanediol) to reduce the phospholipid content in the bovine pericardial tissue. Tensile strength and thermal stability were evaluated before implantation. Twelve
The 16-mm polytetrafluoroethylene conduit for ECFP showed acceptable outcomes and good haemodynamic status in small-sized patients. According to our results, small patients do not require large conduits to accommodate their growth potential.
We evaluated long-term results of De Vega annuloplasty measured by cylindrical sizers for functional tricuspid regurgitation (FTR) and analyzed the impact of measured annular size on the late recurrence of tricuspid valve regurgitation. Between 2001 and 2011, 177 patients (57.9±10.5 yr) underwent De Vega annuloplasty for FTR. Three cylindrical sizers (actual diameters of 29.5, 31.5, and 33.5 mm) were used to reproducibly reduce the tricuspid annulus. Long-term outcomes were evaluated and risk fa
MVP for MR due to IE showed successful clinical outcomes. Valve replacement was performed in some patients with a repair-favorable pathology, after taking into consideration any comorbidities. Whilst standard repair techniques were sufficient, careful decision-making was the key to achieving excellent results for MVP.
Reducing the cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) priming volume in congenital cardiac surgery is important because it is associated with fewer transfusions. This retrospective study was designed to compare safety and transfusion volumes between the mini-volume priming (MP) and conventional priming (CP) methods. Between 2007 and 2012, congenital heart surgery using CPB was performed on 480 infants (≤5 kg): the MP method was used in 331 infants (MP group, 69.0%), and the CP method was used in 149 infants
We sought to evaluate the outcomes of postoperative three-month dual antiplatelet therapy in patients with non-ST-elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) following off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB) with exclusively arterial grafts. Between 2013⁻2016, dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) with either aspirin + clopidogrel (ASA + CPD group, n = 100) or aspirin + ticagrelor (ASA + TCG group, n = 169) was prescribed postoperatively in 269 NSTE-ACS patients after total ar
Although Magna use led to decreased aortic valve pressure gradients at follow-up, overall and event-free survival rates were significantly better with use of the Perimount valve. Additional and larger studies are needed to confirm these results.
In patients with aortic stenosis, a higher LVMI was not related to more severe myocardial fibrosis, and LV mass regression after AVR was not influenced by the severity of the myocardial fibrosis. Rather, cardiac-related death might be related to a highly fibrotic heart.
Surgical AVR with AAR in AS patients with calcified ascending aortas led to acceptable early and late outcomes. Although the applications for TAVI are growing, a surgical approach may be an alternative option for relatively younger patients with severely calcified aorta.
