배정모 교수의 연구실은 대장암과 위암의 분자생물학적 이질성과 발달 기전을 밝히는 데 초점을 맞추고 있습니다. 특히, CDX2, CK20, 미세위상불안정성(MSI), CIMP 및 DNA 메틸화 변화와 같은 분자표지자들을 통해 암의 예후 및 치료 반응을 예측할 수 있는 생물학적 기반을 제시하고 있습니다. 다각적인 분석 기법(면역형광염색, 파이로시퀀싱 등)을 활용한 분자분류와 임상적 연관성 연구가 핵심입니다.

Thus, molecular subtyping of colorectal cancers is an important approach to characterizing their heterogeneity with respect to not only prognosis and therapeutic response but also biology and natural history.

DNA methylation is one of the key mechanisms of epigenetic modification, and genome-wide hypomethylation and CpG island hypermethylation are characteristics of cancer cells. The CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) is a distinctive subtype of colorectal cancers (CRCs) that show concordant hypermethylation of numerous promoter CpG island loci. CIMP-positive CRCs are associated with a proximal location in the colon, microsatellite instability, BRAF mutation and a relatively poor clinical outcome

Our study confirmed that the frequency and characteristics of aberrant TTF-1 expression in CRCs vary according to the antibody clone. Aberrant TTF-1 expression detected by clone SPT24 or SP141 may be encountered preferentially in distally located, conventional pathway-type CRCs.
