Professor Jeong-Hoon Kim's research lab focuses on molecular mechanisms of disease-related proteins, particularly in DNA repair and ubiquitin-mediated regulation, as well as applying computational and molecular tools to address pressing ecological and agricultural challenges. The lab investigates the functional characterization of E3 ubiquitin ligases like hFBH1 and explores antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance using machine learning to predict pathogen burden in food animal systems. Additionally, the lab contributes to polar ecology by studying penguin diets and microbiomes through molecular techniques such as metabarcoding, qPCR, and stable isotope analysis, providing insights into Antarctic ecosystem dynamics. The integration of molecular biology, bioinformatics, and environmental science defines the lab’s interdisciplinary approach.

The positive link between the SWI/SNF and the Gcn5 histone acetyltransferase in transcriptional activation has been well described. Here we report an inhibitory role for Gcn5 in SWI/SNF targeting. We demonstrate that Gcn5-containing complexes directly acetylate the Snf2 subunit of the SWI/SNF complex in vitro, as well as in vivo. The role of the biologically active CART 55-102 peptide in the nucleus accumbens (NAcc) in the expression of cocaine-induced behavioral sensitization was investigated.
