Professor Joo-Young Park's research lab specializes in regenerative medicine and immunology, with a focus on periodontal tissue engineering and the molecular regulation of immune cell development. The lab investigates dental stem cell-based therapies for regenerating periodontal tissues—particularly cementum and periodontal ligament—using advanced stem cell sheet engineering. Additionally, the lab explores the role of key transcription factors and signaling molecules, such as PLZF and sγc, in the development and function of innate-like lymphocytes, including iNKT cells and T cells. These studies integrate stem cell biology, immunology, and molecular sensing for therapeutic applications.

A chemosensor (NBD-H) based on an amino acid with 7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole was used for selective detection of Hg(II) and Cu(II) among 15 metal ions in aqueous solutions by a colorimetric change. The soluble γc protein (sγc) is a naturally occurring splice isoform of the γc cytokine receptor that is produced by activated T cells and inhibits γc cytokine signaling. Here we show that sγc expression is also highly upregulated in immature CD4<sup>+</sup>CD8<sup>+</sup> thymocytes but then downregulated in mature thymocytes.
