15After patients have had one FNA of a thyroid nodule yielding inconclusive diagnostic results (nondiagnostic or AUS/FLUS), CNB is more useful than rFNA for reducing the frequency of inconclusive diagnostic results. CNB will improve the diagnostic performance for malignancy more than rFNA in thyroid nodules that on the first FNA had nondiagnostic or AUS/FLUS readings.
The BRAF(V600E) mutation was associated with high-risk clinicopathologic characteristics in patients with PTC. The BRAF(V600E) mutation may be a potential prognostic factor in PTC patients.
BACKGROUNDMolecular characterization in pediatric papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), distinct from adult PTC, is important for developing molecularly targeted therapies for progressive radioiodine-refractory (131I-refractory) PTC.METHODSPTC samples from 106 pediatric patients (age range: 4.3-19.8 years; n = 84 girls, n = 22 boys) who were admitted to SNUH (January 1983-March 2020) were available for genomic profiling. Previous transcriptomic data from 125 adult PTC samples were used for comparison.
Continuous exposure to ELF EMF may induce testicular germ cell apoptosis in mice.
Induction of antigen-specific T cell tolerance would aid treatment of diverse immunological disorders and help prevent allograft rejection and graft versus host disease. In this study, we establish a method of inducing antigen-specific T cell tolerance in situ in diabetic humanized mice and Rhesus monkeys receiving porcine islet xenografts. Antigen-specific T cell tolerance is induced by administration of an antibody ligating a particular epitope on ICAM-1 (intercellular adhesion molecule 1). An
Memory-like CD8+ T cells expressing eomesodermin are a subset of innate T cells initially identified in a number of genetically modified mice, and also exist in wild mice and human. The acquisition of memory phenotype and function by these T cells is dependent on IL-4 produced by PLZF+ innate T cells; however, their physiologic function is still not known. Here we found that these IL-4-induced innate CD8+ T cells are critical for accelerating the control of chronic virus infection. In CIITA-tran
CD99 is characteristically expressed in Ewing's sarcoma/primitive neuroectodermal tumor. Recently its immunoreactivity has also been reported in other tumors. However, the significance of CD99 isoforms expressed in these tumors has not been elucidated. In this study, we evaluated the expression of CD99 isoforms and its relationship with histopathologic parameters in gastric adenocarcinomas. Paraffin sections of 46 gastric adenocarcinomas were stained with an anti-CD99 monoclonal antibody, YG32.
The CD99 antigen has been implicated in various cellular processes, including apoptosis in T cells. Previously, we reported two monoclonal antibodies that recognize different epitopes of the CD99 molecule, named DN16 and YG32. In this study, we investigated the role of each CD99 epitope in T cell apoptosis. Unlike the DN16 epitope, CD99 ligation via the YG32 epitope failed to induce T cell death. Surprisingly, however, the YG32 signal enhanced Fas-mediated apoptosis in Jurkat T cells. Augmentati
CD24, also referred to as the heat-stable Ag, is a T cell differentiation Ag that is highly expressed on both CD4-CD8- double negative and CD4+CD8+ double positive thymocytes. Here, we report that CD24 ligation by a new anti-CD24 Ab, mT-20, induced the apoptosis of both double negative and double positive thymocytes, as well as the Scid.adh thymic lymphoma cell line, in the absence of TCR/CD3 engagement. CD24-mediated apoptosis of mouse thymocytes and its signaling pathway appeared not to be ass
Extrapulmonary neuroendocrine carcinomas (EP-NECs) are associated with a poor clinical outcome, and limited information is available on the biology and treatment of EP-NECs. We studied EP-NECs by applying the recent novel findings from studies of pulmonary neuroendocrine carcinomas, including POU2F3, the master regulator of tuft cell variant of small cell lung carcinomas. A cohort of 190 patients with surgically resected EP-NECs or poorly differentiated carcinomas (PDCs) were established. Immuno
Both the FACS assay and C-CBA are sensitive and highly specific assays in detecting AQP4-Ab. However, in some sera with relatively low antibody titer, FACS-assay can be a more sensitive assay option. In real practice, complementary use of FACS assay and C-CBA will benefit the diagnosis of NMO patients, because the former can be more sensitive among low titer sera and the latter are easier to use therefore can be widely used.
Abstract Context Clinical implications of unilateral primary aldosteronism (PA) histopathology remain to be determined in various ethnic populations. Objective We examined the histopathology of unilateral PA using CYP11B2 immunostaining in relation to clinical phenotypes and postsurgical outcomes. Methods Patients consecutively operated for unilateral PA from 2010 to 2020 at 3 tertiary hospitals in South Korea were retrospectively enrolled. Adrenals with solitary aldosterone-producing adenomas a
