15These results suggest that the overexpression of caveolin-1 is significantly correlated with a poor prognosis in patients with PCL and that it is a marker for predicting prognosis in PCL.
Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC) is the most common renal cell carcinoma. It has a relatively unfavorable prognosis compared to other common renal cell carcinomas. Recently, comprehensive molecular studies in CCRCC revealed important genetic alterations, including changes in the VHL, PBRM1, and ARID1A genes. The expression of ARID1A protein is associated with tumor progression and prognosis in many cancers. This study aimed to evaluate the nuclear expression of ARID1A in CCRCC and to asse
We demonstrated that IHC staining for CK5/6, CD44 and CK20 was significantly associated with the clinicopathological characteristics and prognoses of patients with non-muscle-invasive papillary UTUC. The IHC subgroups may be correlated with the molecular characteristics of non-muscle-invasive papillary UTUC.
Epithelioid angiomyolipoma (EAML) is considered to be a potentially malignant tumor and requires a differential diagnosis from renal cell carcinoma. In this study, we assessed the clinicopathologic features of renal EAML and evaluated the prognostic significance. Among 78 angiomyolipoma (AML) patients, a total of 5 EAMLs were identified, accounting for 6.4% of the total AML cases. The mean age was 41.4 years, and the average tumor size was 12.7 cm in diameter. Association of tuberous sclerosis c
Our observation that plasmacytoid urothelial carcinomas frequently demonstrated HER2 protein overexpression provides supporting evidence that HER2 may be a potential therapeutic target for plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma.
Smad2, Smad3, and Smad4 are components of the transforming growth factor β signaling pathway associated with tumorigenesis. The expression of these proteins is associated with tumor progression and prognosis of many cancers. This study aimed to evaluate the nuclear expression of Smad2, Smad3, and Smad4 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma and to assess the clinical significance and prognostic value of their expression patterns. The nuclear expression levels of Smads were evaluated in 637 cases of
Signet ring cell carcinoma of the lung rarely showed aberrant E-cadherin localization or beta-catenin nuclear accumulation, which are frequent events in gastric and colorectal SRCCs. These results suggest that the biologic roles of E-cadherin and beta-catenin complexes in SRCC of the lung differ from their roles in gastric or colorectal SRCCs.
Urothelial carcinoma (UC) is the most common histologic type of urinary bladder cancer, and muscle-invasive UC shows aggressive behaviors. Programmed cell death-1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) blockades have been approved as standard treatments for patients with advanced stage UC. A total of 166 muscle-invasive urinary bladder cancer (MIBC) patients, who underwent transurethral resection of the bladder or cystectomy from 2004 to 2010 were included. We evaluated PD-L1 expression b
These results suggest that glomerular parietal epithelial cells in cellular crescents up-regulate both ICAM-1 and VCAM-1, and that some epithelial cells retained in fibrous crescents persistently over-express VCAM-1, but not ICAM-1. They also suggest that ICAM-1 is involved in early leucocyte recruitment into glomeruli in crescentic glomerulonephritis.
