This study examines current trends in multicultural teacher education in Korea and offers directions for improvement. 이 연구는 미국의 중고등학교에서 가장 많이 채택되는 여섯 권의 ‘세계문화’ 교과서에 나타난 한국 관련 내용을, 필자가 새롭게 제시하는 이론적 준거틀에 의하여 분석하였다. ‘사실적 관점’에서 보면, 2000년대의 세계문화 교과서들이 문제점들을 가지고 있긴 하지만, 정보의 오류가 많이 시정되고, 새로운 정보도 추가하였음을 알 수 있다. 그리고 ‘국제이해적 관점’에서 보면, 여전히 한국에 대한 내용이 양적으로 빈약할 뿐만 아니라 한국을 계속 주변화 시키고 있다. 일부 교과서가 한국 관련 내용 비중을 늘리고 있는 점 또한 발견할 수 있었다. 그러나 필자가 이 연구에서 새롭게 제기하는 ‘세계시민적 관점’에서 보면, 미국의 세계문화 교과서의 한국 관련 내용은 여전히 과거의 교과서와 마찬가지로 미국우월주의적, 시혜적, 식민주의적 관점을 여실히 드러내고 있다. 즉 한국의 역사, 지리, 사회, 문화에 있어서 한국인이 주체로 설명되지 않고 있음을 볼 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to address the current status and future directions of language education policies for linguistic minority students. Based on the analysis of research on language development of diverse students, language education policies of multicultural societies such as Germany, Canada, the United States, and Japan, and the current KSL and bilingual education in Korea, this article suggests improvement plans for multicultural language education. First of all, language education
