高橋稔氏の研究室では、DNA修復機構とその異常が引き起こす疾患の分子メカニズムを、ショウジョウブエやマウス、特にチキンB細胞(DT40)をモデル系として解明しています。特に、ホモロガスドリパビリテーション(HR)に関与するRad51パラログやFA複合体の機能を遺伝子ノックアウト技術を用いて解析しており、がんや血液疾患の発症機構の解明を目的としています。また、代謝由来のアセトアルデヒドやDNA損傷の関係についても、その病態と修復機構の解明を進めています。

The Rad51 protein, a eukaryotic homologue of Escherichia coli RecA, plays a central role in both mitotic and meiotic homologous DNA recombination (HR) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and is essential for the proliferation of vertebrate cells. Recent studies showed KIT gene aberrations in a substantial number of melanomas on acral skin and mucosa, suggesting the therapeutic benefit of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, such as imatinib.
