Professor Park, Joo-Young's research lab specializes in thyroid cancer molecular biology, focusing on the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying follicular and papillary thyroid carcinomas. The lab investigates driver mutations (e.g., BRAF, RAS, TERT promoter), fusion genes, and their prognostic implications for risk stratification and clinical decision-making. Additionally, the lab explores dental stem cell therapy for periodontal regeneration, particularly in challenging apical root defects, highlighting translational regenerative medicine. Their work bridges molecular oncology and regenerative medicine with a strong emphasis on clinical translation.

15Follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) and benign follicular adenoma (FA) are indistinguishable by preoperative diagnosis due to their similar histological features. Here we report the first RNA sequencing study of these tumors, with data for 30 minimally invasive FTCs (miFTCs) and 25 FAs. The coexistence of BRAF or RAS mutations enhanced the prognostic effects of TERT promoter mutations. Furthermore, TERT promoter mutations strengthened the predictions of mortality and recurrence by the ATA and TNM staging systems, particularly for high-risk patients with DTC. Coexistent BRAF<sup>V600E</sup> and TERT promoter mutations have a synergistic effect on clinical outcomes in PTC, whereas each mutation alone has a modest effect. Therefore, molecular testing of BRAF<sup>V600E</sup> and TERT promoter mutations together is useful in assessing risk stratification of PTC.
Clinicians who deal with thyroid nodules should pay particular attention to HT because it is a stronger predictor for PTC than other risk factors.
